On Sunday, November 3, 2024, at approximately 7:35 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) Officers responded to a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 600 block of W Ben White SVRD EB. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene. The pedestrian, later identified as Angela Cantu, was transported to the hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The driver, later identified as Guillermo Lagunas-Hernandez, was transported to a local hospital. He eventually succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on October 6, 2024.

The bicyclist was transported to the hospital. He eventually succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on October 10, 2024. The driver of the car, later identified as Abel Martinez, was arrested for DWI.

On Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 9:11 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving three vehicles in the 7500 block of Burnet Road. An initial collision occurred between an SUV and a motorcycle, followed by a secondary collision between a pickup truck and the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The drivers of the SUV and the pickup truck remained on scene. The driver of the pickup truck, later identified as Andrew Lycan, was arrested for DWI.

On Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 6:22 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving an SUV and a hatchback sedan at the intersection of Great Hills Trail and North Capital of Texas Highway. The SUV ran the red light at the intersection traveling southbound on Great Hills Trail. The hatchback was traveling westbound on N Capital of Texas Highway and entered the intersection on a green light, resulting in a crash with the SUV. A passenger of the SUV was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased. Two additional passengers from the SUV were also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The remaining parties stayed on scene and are cooperating with this investigation

Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.   The pedestrian was crossing midblock and was struck by a white SUV followed by another vehicle. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the white SUV remained on scene, was not injured, and is cooperating with the investigation. The driver of the second vehicle left the scene without stopping or calling 9-1-1.

The motorcyclist, later identified as Joshua Lee-Michael Babb, was pronounced deceased on scene. A passenger on the bus was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday, September 5, 2024, at approximately 10:08 p.m., Austin Police Officers responded to a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 3400 block of South Congress Avenue. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the vehicle left the scene but was later located.  Police said the driver of the vehicle initially left the scene and was later found, the release said. The driver was later identified as Julie K. Kotrla, 34, according to police. She was arrested for “an accident involving death,” the release said.  This crash is being investigated as Austin’s 62nd fatal crash of 2024, according to police.

The pedestrians, later identified as Antonio Luis Trevino Maldonado and Johnny Joe Reyes, were pronounced deceased on scene. The driver remained on scene and was arrested for DWI.   These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending. One driver, later identified as Pedro Arroyo, was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased on August 17, 2024. The occupants of a second vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of the remaining three vehicles were not injured.

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, at approximately 8:39 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) Officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and two pedestrians in the intersection of Hillview Road and Greenlee Drive. One of the pedestrians, later identified as Allison Baker, was pronounced deceased on the scene. The second pedestrian was transported to a local hospital for serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene, was not injured or impaired, and is cooperating with the investigation.  Baker was a “dedicated” volunteer with Boys and Girls Club of the Austin Area, “serving thousands of BGCAA kids,” according to the organization.

UPDATE: Detectives from the Vehicular Homicide Unit investigated the case and a suspect was identified as Jeremy Josue Giron Hernandez. It was found that Giron Hernandez was the driver of the stolen vehicle that resulted in a crash that killed Andrew Fonseca Reyes. On October 1, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued for Giron Hernandez for First Degree Murder. On October 8, 2024, Giron Hernandez was arrested for the warrant in Williamson County.
On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at approximately 2:36 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a single vehicle crash in the 6800 block of Hart Lane. One passenger, later identified as Andrew Fonseca Reyes, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased on August 8, 2024. The driver and two other passengers of the car left the scene.

A blue SUV was stalled in a lane of traffic when a Gray SUV struck the blue SUV from behind. The passenger of the blue SUV was pronounced deceased on scene and the driver was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the gray SUV was transported with minor injuries and later arrested for DWI.

The rider, later identified as Christopher Hale, fell off of his motorcycle and was then struck by the vehicle. Mr. Hale was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced deceased. The occupants of the vehicle remained on scene, were not injured, and the driver was not impaired.

The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating the in-custody death that occurred on Monday, June 17, 2024.    At approximately 4:02 p.m., Austin 9-1-1 received multiple calls reporting an urgent disturbance at the Circle K Convenience Store located at 8801 S IH-35 Frontage Road. The 9-1-1 callers reported that a man, later identified as Jermaine Joseph Sims, wearing gray shorts and a white tank top, was “acting erratic” and “throwing things” inside the business.   At approximately 4:05 p.m., Mr. Sims stole a pick-up truck from one of the convenience store gas pumps, turned onto the southbound frontage road of IH 35 at Slaughter Ln., in the wrong direction, and crashed into multiple vehicles.   At approximately 4:09 p.m., officers arrived on scene and at approximately 4:10 p.m., officers took Mr. Sims into custody. Austin-Travis County EMS (A/TCEMS) arrived on scene and transported Mr. Sims to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 6:04 p.m.  because Mr. Sims died after being detained by APD officers, this incident is being investigated as an in-custody death. The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.

As a tractor trailer made a left turn out of a shopping center, it was struck by a sedan. The driver of the sedan and one of the three passengers were transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased. The two remaining passengers in the sedan were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer remained on scene, was not impaired, was not injured, and is cooperating with the investigation.   A GoFundMe page stated donations will go towards honoring the life of Miraj and her mother Cynthia.  The page said Miraj graduated from Austin High this year and said she was known on campus as a “fun, loving, and kind student.”  “She was born with the biggest heart and loved spending time with family. She had the most beautiful smile and was known throughout the Austin High campus for her joyous spirit,” the fundraiser said.  According to the GoFundMe, Miraj was accepted to Austin Community College and had plans to transfer to Colorado University in the future. She was also a member of the Classical Academy at Austin High a contributing member of the Black Student Alliance.

The deceased victim was identified as Cody Jordon Shelton.  The Austin Police Department said a second person has died following a vehicle-pedestrian crash in downtown Austin during the week of South by Southwest. The department identified that second victim Wednesday morning as William Dunham, 34..   On Tuesday, March 12, at approximately 1:09 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and two pedestrians at the intersection of East 7th Street and Red River Street. One of the pedestrians was pronounced deceased on scene, and the second pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with potential life-threatening injuries.  The suspect vehicle did not remain on scene and continued traveling east on East 7th street.

On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at approximately 5:35 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash at North Austin Medical Center, located at 12221 North Mopac. The driver of a sedan, Michell Holloway, crashed her vehicle into the emergency room waiting area. Three adults and two juveniles that were in the waiting room area were injured and taken to different hospitals for treatment. Some of their injuries were serious, but not life-threatening. Holloway was later pronounced deceased at North Austin Medical Center.

The woman who drove into St. David’s North Austin Medical Center in February, killing herself and seriously injuring at least five others, had a blood-alcohol level between three and four times the legal limit to drive, along with the chemical compounds of cannabis found in her system, according to an autopsy report.  The autopsy said tests for cannabinoid came back “presumptively positive.”
UPDATE: On May 24, 2024, a family of four seriously hurt in February’s deadly car crash at an Austin hospital is suing.  The Bernard family filed a 25-page lawsuit in Travis County against St. David’s HealthCare. The lawsuit seeks more than $1 million for mounting medical bills, pain and suffering and lost wages. Their attorney said what happened to them should have been prevented.  “Plaintiffs have filed this case to encourage St. David’s and all hospitals to quit waiting for accidents to happen and construct safety barriers now at their emergency rooms before more people are hurt by vehicle intrusions, a very common incident,” the lawsuit stated.

On Monday, January 1, 2024, at approximately 5:58 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a vehicle crash between a Sports-Utility-Vehicle and a pedestrian in the 6600 Block of North Interstate Highway 35 SB. The pedestrian died at the scene. The driver remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation and did not show any signs of intoxication..   This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 1st fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 1 fatality for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 1 fatal crash resulted in 1 death. (27)

November 3,Two people died in Travis County on Sunday morning following a head-on collision on US-183.  According to Austin-Travis County EMS, medics responded to a vehicle rescue at 5:28 a.m. in the 9800 block of South US-183.  ATCEMS said two vehicles were involved in the crash, and two adult patients were pronounced dead at the scene after resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

October 24 A pedestrian died Thursday morning in New Braunfels after being struck by an 18-wheeler.  According to the City of New Braunfels, first responders arrived at the scene in the 6000 block of Interstate 35 South and found a man with fatal injuries from the collision. The man was identified as 31-year-old Austin Michael Arp, of Austin. According to the city, the driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured in the incident. Officials said the crash remains under investigation; however, no charges are expected to be filed.

October 18on State Highway 71 at Old Bee Caves Road in southwest Austin due to a crash early Friday morning.  According to DPS, a 2024 Kia was driving east on Thomas Springs Road, and the truck tractor was driving south in the outside lane of SH 71.  “The Kia disregarded a red light while turning right onto SH-71, striking the trailer of the truck tractor,” DPS said.  The driver of the Kia, Tracy Daspit, of Austin, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to DPS. The driver of the truck tractor remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators, the agency said.

October 13 (KXAN) — A family is looking for answers and solutions to what they call a dangerous stretch of road in Bastrop County. Oct. 13 is a day that the Davis family will never forget.  Grayson Davis, 29, was returning home from a trip to Florida, driving on FM 535 near Cedar Creek Drive. Around 8 p.m. that night, a drunk driver going the wrong way hit Grayson’s car head-on.

“He was about a mile from home. Just about to his driveway when it happened,” Ashley Davis, Grayson’s mother, told KXAN. “[The crash] caused our son’s truck to just be destroyed. It flipped. They had to pull my son out and airlift him to Austin.”  Authorities allege the drunk driver came from a bar that is especially popular on the weekends.  Meanwhile, the man accused of killing Davis is in the Bastrop County jail. Jorge Peralta, 35, faces a felony charge of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle. He is currently held at the Bastrop County Jail.  DPS said the crash investigation remains open and ongoing.  The Davis family, now left reeling with the fact Grayson is gone, said they hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else.  “He was just a people’s person,” his mom said. “He loved everyone, and reach out to everyone, and it showed because they showed up for him.”  The family said that FM 535 is plagued with problems.  “A really bad stretch of road,” said Todd Davis, Grayson’s father. “Poorly paved. Poorly everything. No shoulder.”  The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) told KXAN it has stepped up patrols on this stretch of road.

A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle on SH 71 in Bastrop on Saturday morning. The Bastrop Police Department says on Sept. 21, around 11:29 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of SH 71 East in response to an auto-pedestrian crash. Bastrop Fire crews also responded to the scene to assist.  According to the preliminary investigation, a woman was attempting to cross the eastbound main lanes when she was struck. Crews attempted CPR, but the woman died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that struck her sustained no reported injuries and no other injuries or damages were reported, police say. (55)

September 18, 2024 – Travis County (35) – One person is dead after being struck by a vehicle near the Austin airport on Tuesday night, the Texas Department of Public Safety told KXAN Wednesday in a statement.  A DPS trooper responded to 10200 Doyle Road around 11 p.m. to the crash, the agency said.  According to DPS, a Chevrolet Silverado was driving south on Doyle Road, and a pedestrian was walking in the roadway. The Silverado hit the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead on the scene, the agency said.  he pedestrian will not be identified until the next of kin is notified, the agency added. (54)

Two Fatalities in Mustang Ridge as Multi-Vehicle Crash Occurs on State Highway 21 Near AustinSeptember 8, 2024 – Mustang Ridge/Travis County (33, 34) – Tragedy struck on a Texas highway Saturday evening as two victims lost their lives in a multi-vehicle accident in Mustang Ridge, a town just southeast of Austin. The incident occurred around 7:43 p.m. on State Highway 21, in the 19300 block of Camino Real (State Highway 21) in Mustang Ridge – involving three vehicles.  Mustang Ridge Police Department responded and two individuals involved were pronounced dead shortly after their arrival. September 7, 2024 – Bastrop County – Part of State Highway 21 was closed in Cedar Creek Saturday morning after a person died in an auto-pedestrian crash in the area.  Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the crash at 6:17 a.m.  DPS said a person was struck by a vehicle and died. September 1, 2024 – Elgin – One person died following a single-vehicle crash in Elgin on Sunday morning, according to the Elgin Police Department.  According to police, the crash occurred near the intersection of U.S. 290 and Western Sky Boulevard. (50)

August 28, 2024 – Manor/Travis County (31) – A 56-year-old man died Wednesday morning in a crash in Manor on Highway 290 near Greenbury Drive just before 2:30 am.  Manor Police said in an update the crash involved two vehicles. One was driven by a 56-year-old man, who was pronounced dead on the scene. The other vehicle was driven by a 22-year-old man, who was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a bicyclist.  WCSO says that on August 17, between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the 11000 block of FM 2338 near Andice for a report of an injured bicyclist on the side of the road.  Once on scene, they located a 79-year-old man who was badly injured. August 17, 2024 – Williamson County – The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office asked for help in regards to the death of a bicyclist found near the community of Andice.  First responders in Williamson County found an injured bicyclist Saturday morning on the side of the road near the 11000 block of Farm-to-Market 2338.  WCSO said a 79-year-old man was taken to the hospital, but he later died from his injuries. August 14, 2024 – Travis County (30) – One person is dead after a single-vehicle rollover in west Travis County.  ATCEMS medics and the Lake Travis Fire Department responded to the crash in the 21000 block of Hamilton Pool Road near Martin Cove at around 6:06 p.m.. This is located near Dripping Springs.  Medics said one person was pinned inside the vehicle and said they pronounced one adult person dead on the scene.

August 12, 2024 – Travis County (29) – One person is dead after a one-vehicle crash on eastbound State Highway 45 Southeast near State Highway 130, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.  DPS said the crash around 4:30 am involved a pickup truck that was occupied by only the driver. August 7, 2024 – Lampasas County – Officials have identified all five people killed in a fiery wreck in Central Texas last week that caused a Leander teenager to lose his entire family, a Department of Public Safety trooper said Friday.  The people killed included Arvind Mani, 45; his 40-year-old wife, Pradeepa Arvind; and their 17-year-old daughter, Andril Arvind, all of whom were from Leander, according to a DPS report. Their only surviving immediate family member, Adiryan, 14, was not in the vehicle with them.  The other people killed in the wreck at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 281 in Lampasas County were Jacinto Gudino Duran, 31, and 23-year-old Yosilu Gasman Martinez, both of Copperas Cove, the report said.  The Kia hit the passenger side of the Cadillac, tearing it in half, DPS trooper Bryan Washko said. The Kia caught fire, he said, and everyone died at the scene. “There was no chance of survival,” the trooper said.  Duran might have been driving 100 mph, according to a witness driving 80 mph who said the Cadillac had passed her earlier, Washko said. The Kia was traveling about 65 to 70 mph, Washko said. Adding both speeds of the vehicles together meant the crash was “like driving into a concrete wall at 170 mph,” he said.  Duran was driving south on U.S. 281 in a 2004 Cadillac CTS with Martinez as a passenger when his right rear tire blew out and he lost control of the car, according to the report. It said the Cadillac skidded sideways into the northbound lanes of U.S. 281, hitting the 2024 Kia Telluride that Mani was driving north with his wife and daughter. (45)

August 7, 2024 – Travis County (28) – Farm to Market Road 969 was closed in both directions near State Highway 130 Wednesday morning after a fatal crash in the area. One westbound lane had reopened as of 9:50 a.m. The Texas Department of Public Safety said it was a four-vehicle crash that killed one person. Troopers are on the scene investigating the crash. It happened just east of SH 130.  Austin-Travis County EMS responded to the crash, referring to it as a “pin-in collision” that involved five people.  One adult was pronounced dead on the scene and four others were transported to Dell Seton with non-life-threatening injuries, according to ATCEMS. July 14, 2024 – Leander – A fatal crash in Leander closed a roadway overnight, according to police. The Leander Police Department said Municipal Drive from Northern Trail to Southwest Drive has since reopened. The crash occurred shortly after midnight, according to LPD.   A spokesperson for the city said the crash involved a single motorcycle driven by a man.  “The motorcycle went off the road into the woods and the rider was ejected,” the city said. July 2, 2024 – Travis County (27) – One person is dead after a vehicle-motorcycle crash in southwest Travis County on Tuesday.  Around 5:45 p.m., ATCEMS medics responded to the crash at the West U.S. Highway 290 and Signal Hill Drive intersection. which is near the Travis and Hays County line. One person was pronounced dead on the scene. (37)

June 29, 2024 – Travis County (26) – One person is dead after a vehicle rollover near Del Valle on Saturday.  Around 4:15 p.m., ATCEMS medics said they responded to the rollover near the intersection of Wolf Lane and Meurer Lane. The agency did not say if other vehicles or people were involved in the crash. (36)

June 22, 2024 – Travis County (25) – One person is dead and two others are injured after a crash in East Austin Saturday afternoon.Officials with Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) said the crash occurred just after 5 p.m. in the area around the 10100 to 10500 block of FM 969, near Bud Dryden Airport.  Medics executed a vehicle rescue before pronouncing one of the patients dead on the scene. The two other patients were taken to Dell Seton Medical Center, where one is dealing with serious injuries and the other is dealing with non-life threatening injuries.

June 21, 2024 – Travis County (24) – One person is dead, and another is seriously injured after a three-vehicle crash in Del Valle Friday night.  Shortly after 9 p.m., ATCEMS medics responded to the crash on Pearce Lane and Kellam Road, where a total of five people were involved. That’s near State Highway 130 and State Highway 71. Medics said two of the three vehicles rolled with a possible ejection. Travis County STARFlight also responded to the scene and transported one person with “critical  injuries.”   One other adult person was pronounced dead on the scene, medics said. The three other people on the scene did not get transported.  According to Travis County court documents, 35-year-old Eric Ricardo Landeros Ibarra was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle, a second-degree felony.  Court documents said Landeros Ibarra drove on the wrong side of the road in a no-passing zone into the path of another vehicle, which killed the driver. Documents identified the driver as 19-year-old Eduardo Antonio Figueroa. (35)

June 18, 2024 – Blanco County () – Officials are investigating a multiple vehicle deadly crash that happened in Blanco County on Tuesday.  Around 1 p.m., BCSO said it, along with the Texas Department of Public Safety and EMS responded to the crash on U.S. 281 and Ranch Road 473.  The deadly accident happened just before 10 a.m. along U.S. Highway 281 near Farm-to-Market 473.  Texas Department of Public Safety officials said information indicates that a Chevrolet Camaro drove on the wrong side of the highway and crashed into a Toyota Highlander and a Honda Accord.  Six other people were injured and were rushed to various hospitals. U.S. 281 is shutdown at Mile Marker 496. Avoid the area if possible. (34)

A person died after a three-vehicle crash in Kyle Thursday afternoon. According to the city, Kyle police officers responded to the crash in the southbound lane of I-35, just south of the Kyle Crossing overpass, at 4:36 p.m.  When officers arrived, they found the crash blocking multiple lanes of travel. Investigators determined that a gray GMC Yukon rear-ended a black Nissan passenger car, driven by 52-year-old Timothy Wray, and those vehicles then struck a white Toyota pickup. Wray died in the crash. (33)

May 28, 2024 – Williamson County () – One person is dead after a four-vehicle crash in Round Rock on Tuesday. DPS said troopers responded to the RM 1431 in Williamson County around 12:30 p.m.  According to DPS, a driver heading west on RM-1431 allegedly made an “unsafe” lane change, which resulted in the crash. A release from the DPS spokesman said the driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead, and a child in the same vehicle was taken to the hospital. Another driver was also transported to the hospital for minor injuries. The two other drivers involved were not injured and released from the scene, according to DPS.  (32)

May 24, 2024 – Travis County (23) – One person died in a crash on State Highway 130 in south Austin Friday afternoon, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.  ATCEMS said on X at 12:53 p.m. it was responding to a crash on SH 130 near Maha Loop Road.  The driver died after a tire blew out on a trailer and caused the driver to lose control and crash. The incident happened in the 10300 block of SH 130 in Travis County and the driver has been identified as 55-year-old Michellene Marie Rougier. Officials say Rougier was driving a 2008 Ford F-350 towing a two-axle flatbed trailer when the truck’s rear right tire blew out and caused Rougier to lose control and crash.  ATCEMS said at least one person was ejected from their vehicle, and one person was pronounced dead on the scene.  Another person was evaluated on the scene and transported to a hospital in Hays County with potentially serious injuries. May 20, 2024 – Travis County (22) – A 19-year-old male driver died after his pickup truck collided with the rear of a dump truck Monday evening in Mustang Ridge.  The collision occurred around 5 p.m. in the 15900 block of Camino Real (State Highway 21).  Travis County Fire & Rescue and Lockhart-Caldwell County EMS arrived shortly after and took over medical care. However, the 19-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene just after 6 p.m. The dump truck driver sustained minor injuries and was released. A preliminary investigation shows the pickup truck collided into the rear of the dump truck as the dump truck was waiting for clearance to make a northbound turn onto Williamson Road, police said. The collision remains under investigation. (30)

May 15, 2024 – Round Rock () – One person is dead after police said an Amtrak train struck an SUV Wednesday morning in Round Rock. The Round Rock Police Department previously shut down the Interstate 35 frontage roads on both the northbound and southbound sides near McNeil Road to further investigate. However, police later said the roads have now reopened.  In a statement Wednesday afternoon, a spokesperson for Amtrak said its train bound for Chicago from San Antonio “came into contact with a vehicle obstructing the tracks” at about 10:58 a.m. The train had 46 passengers onboard at the time, but none of them got hurt during the collision. May 9, 2024 – Hays County () – A woman was killed in a crash involving a freightliner truck in Hays County, DPS said.  According to DPS, on May 9, around 8:07 a.m., troopers responded to a deadly crash on SH 45 and FM 1327 in Hays County involving a Mercedes and a freightliner truck.  As a result of the crash, the driver of the Mercedes, 23-year-old Ladson Brown, Tyaundra from San Antonio, was pronounced dead at Ascension Seton Hays Hospital. May 1, 2024 – Williamson County () –One person is dead following a major crash on Ronald Reagan Boulevard in Williamson County.  The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened between a passenger car and a commercial vehicle on Ronald Reagan Boulevard north of FM 3405. The sheriff’s office said one person died in the crash. (27)

April 24, 2024 – Travis County (21) – One person is dead after a motorcycle crash in Leander on Wednesday, Austin-Travis County EMS said.  Around 7:04 p.m., medics responded to the crash in Leander in the 10200 block of Lime Creek Road. That’s near Travista Drive. Travis County Starflight also responded to the crash for an unidentified adult person, medics said. However, medics said the person died on the scene. (26)

April 24, 2024 – Travis County (20) – A person died in west Austin Wednesday after being involved in a “vehicle-pedestrian” collision shortly after noon, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.  ATCEMS said on social media at 12:12 p.m. that CPR was in progress for a person after an incident involving “heavy machinery” in the 3000 block of Westlake Drive, near Trailview Mesa Drive. In an update at 12:25 p.m., EMS said the person was pronounced dead on the scene after “extensive resuscitative efforts.” (25)

April 16, 2024 – Travis County (19) – Texas authorities are investigating after a car with a dead body inside was pulled out of a creek in Manor Monday morning. The Department of Public Safety said it responded to a fatal crash around 8:41 a.m. Monday after a driver reported seeing a vehicle upside down and almost completely submerged in Cottonwood Creek in the 18800 block of Cameron Road in Manor. The vehicle, a 2008 Infiniti, was recovered from the creek and emergency responders found a man in the passenger seat. He was confirmed to be dead on the scene, according to Travis County ESD No. 2.  The accident is being investigated by DPS. (24)

April 15, 2024 – Leander – A man riding on a motorcycle died after striking a van that pulled out in front of him on U.S. Highway 183. The deadly wreck that happened Monday at about 6:12 p.m. on the highway near Sheila Drive, which is close to Crystal Falls Parkway.  Brendan Kayle Johnson, a 29-year-old resident of Leander, died after his Honda motorcycle struck the left rear side of a Chevrolet van that turned left from Sheila Drive onto U.S. 183. The van’s driver remained at the crash site, according to the city, and received a citation for failure to yield right of way turning left.  (23)

April 13, 2024 – Buda, Texas – 41-year-old Thomas Shears was struck by a car when he was leaving a concert at Buck’s Backyard on Farm to Market Road 1626 on Saturday, April 13. His family wonders if there were better signage along the road, Shears might still be alive.  Shears went to see a concert with two others that night. When they arrived at Buck’s Backyard, the parking lot in front of the venue appeared full, so they parked along FM 1626, where he was eventually hit and died as a result of his injuries.  (22)

April 12, 2024 – Brenham, Texas – A second person died after a crash earlier this month when a stolen 18-wheeler wrecked into a Texas Department of Public Safety building.  The DPS Southeast Texas Region posted on its social media on Monday that Cheryl Turner, 63, of Brenham died as a result of the incident.1 dead after stolen 18-wheeler crashes into Texas DPS building, several others injured   The incident happened Friday, April 12 when 42-year-old Clenard Parker crashed a stolen 18-wheeler into a DPS office in Brenham.  One person, later identified as Bobby Huff, 78, died at the scene that day. DPS said a total of 14 people were involved in the incident. Six people were taken to the hospital and eight others were treated and released at the scene. Parker was arrested at the scene and taken to the Washington County Jail where he faces several charges.   (21)

April 7, 2024 – Travis County (18) – One person died after a crash on US 290 in eastern Travis County, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.  The crash happened just before 8 a.m. Sunday on East U.S. 290 eastbound near Springdale Road.  ATCEMS said the crash was a probable single-vehicle collision. March 30, 2024 – Travis County (17) – Three (3) people died early morning Saturday following a two-vehicle crash in eastern Travis County, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.  ATCEMS said it responded to the crash at approximately 2:25 a.m. near Farm-to-Market 973 and Platt Lane, and four ambulances and STAR Flight were at the scene. At the crash site, medics found one person entrapped with critical injuries and three patients with non-life-threatening injuries. The critical patient was taken to the hospital by STAR Flight, and ATCEMS confirmed three patients died at the scene. The three other patients were also taken to the hospital.  (Since 2019, there have been more than 230 crashes, 60 of which were in 2023, along the nearly five-mile stretch of FM 973 from Steger Lane to U.S. Highway 290, according to the Texas Department of Transportation’s Crash Records Information System.  TxDOT confirmed it began conducting a speed study on the road, but it is expected to tak several months to complete.  “An environmental study is also underway for FM 973 from U.S. [Highway] 79 to U.S. 290, which will focus on safety enhancements and mobility improvements along the corridor,” a TxDOT spokesperson said. “It’s important to note, TxDOT also reminds drivers to make smart decisions behind the wheel, including driving to conditions, obeying the speed limit, avoiding distractions, never drinking and driving and always buckling up.”)  (18)

March 28, 2024 – Travis County (14) – One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash involving a rollover on the State Highway 130 Toll on Thursday.  The crash was reported around 2:30 p.m. on State Highway 130 Toll at Cameron Road, near the Austin Executive Airport.  Medics said one adult person was pronounced dead on the scene. March 22, 2024 – Bastrop County –  A Hays Consolidated Independent School District bus carrying Tom Green Elementary pre-K students was Hays CISD speeds up bus replacement, identifies student who died in Friday crash | KXAN Austininvolved in a serious crash Friday, resulting in at least two deaths.  Ryan Wallace (@utwallace) / XOne of the deaths was a child on the bus, and the other was a man from a vehicle traveling behind the bus. The district identified the child as Ulises Rodriguez Montoya, 5 years old.  Also Ryan Wallace, 33, was a doctoral candidate at the School of Journalism and Media at the University of Texas at Austin.  Both Montoya and Wallace died at the scene. The crash happened between the bus and a concrete truck near Mustang Ridge. Officials said it appeared the concrete truck veered into the lane of the school bus on SH 21 near Caldwell Road.   The concrete truck driver involved in the fatal Hays CISD school bus crash was arrested in Bastrop County. Court documents said he admitted to smoking marijuana and consuming cocaine within 24 hours of the crash.  Hays CISD releases dashcam video of fatal school bus crashThe Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed to KXAN Friday that Jerry Hernandez, 42, was arrested on a warrant for criminally negligent homicide. Additionally, he was also arrested on an unrelated warrant for a bond violation out of Hays County.   ATCEMS said it evaluated a total of 53 people involved in the incident. Four of the people were in critical condition and transported by helicopter, six people were taken to the hospital in ambulances with potentially serious injuries. Others were transported by other agencies as well, medics said.  In a news release from Hays CISD, the district said the students were returning from a field trip to the Bastrop Zoo. A total of 44 students and 11 adults were on the bus. (14)

March 15, 2024 – Travis County (13) – One person died and another was critically injured in a crash on State Highway 71 near the Travis and Bastrop County line overnight, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.  ATCEMS posted on X at 12:36 a.m. that medics were responding to a vehicle rollover on the eastbound side of the highway, between the 5546-5552 blocks. The post said CPR was in progress for one person and another person was trapped in the vehicle.  In an update, ATCEMS said the trapped person was taken out of the vehicle and declared a trauma alert then taken to St. David’s South with critical, life-threatening injuries.  The other person was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash, according to a final update from ATCEMS. March 11, 2024 – Mustang Ridge (12) – One person was killed and three were injured in a crash in Mustang Ridge late Sunday night.  The crash involving a car and a motorcycle in the 18500 block of Camino Real (State Highway 21) occurred around 9:20 p.m.  One patient was pronounced dead on the scene and three other patients were transported to the hospital with critical injuries, according to police. It is an active investigation.  Several other agencies responded to the crash as well, including the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Travis County Fire Rescue, Austin-Travis County EMS, Lockhart EMS, Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Department of Public Safety. March 3, 2024 – Travis County (11) – Three people died in an overnight crash on State Highway 130 near Tesla Road in eastern Travis County.  Austin-Travis County EMS said the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. A vehicle went off SH 130 on Tesla Road and ended up on its roof.  The Department of Public Safety said three women died because of the crash.

February 12, 2024 – Travis County (8) – One person died and another was injured in a crash on South Highway 183 near the Pilot Knob neighborhood overnight Sunday into Monday morning. The crash happened around 2:40 a.m. on Hwy 183 near its intersection with Planeview Drive. It was a two-vehicle crash. The highway was closed in both directions at FM 812 for several hours Monday morning but reopened around 8 a.m.  One person was pronounced dead on the scene, and ATCEMS said another person was pinned and extricated by the fire department and declared a trauma alert by medics. They were transported to a local hospital with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries. (10)

February 11, 2024 – Pflugerville (7) – One person died following a two-vehicle crash in Pflugerville, according to Travis County ESD No. 2.  Firefighters were on the scene near John Henry Faulk Drive for the crash with a reported vehicle rescue.  Officials said two patients were taken to the hospital and one person died. February 11, 2024 – Travis County (6) –  Four people are dead after a Sunday night crash involving up to four vehicles, according to Austin-Travis County EMS. ATCEMS said the crash was reported at the intersection of FM 812 and FM 973 just before 10 p.m. The four died at the scene of the crash, ATCEMS said.  According to ATCEMS, one other person, an adult, was taken to the hospital with potentially serious injuries. The Texas Department of Public Safety told KXAN it is investigating the crash. The Texas Department of Transportation posted on social media at 10:48 p.m. that all lanes were closed at the intersection due to the crash. (8)

February 7, 2024 – Travis County (2)  – The Texas Department of Public Safety said troopers are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that closed lanes of FM 969 in eastern Travis County Wednesday morning. Around 3:30 a.m., a Texas DPS trooper responded to the crash near the 900 block of FM 969. That’s two miles east of U.S. Highway 183. According to DPS, an unidentified male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that drove away from the scene. (4)

February 6, 2024 – Kyle – A Kyle woman was arrested and is facing a charge of intoxication manslaughter after a Friday night crash left one person dead, according to the City of Kyle.  Sonja Marinkovic, 45, was arrested by the Kyle Police Department following the crash shortly before midnight on the I-35 Southbound Frontage Road at Kohlers Crossing.   Police investigated the crash and found that a Mazda SUV, driven by Marinkovic, was driving at a high speed on wet roadways and hit the back of a Chevrolet passenger car, causing it to slide down a grassy median and end up on the shoulder of the frontage road.  The driver of the Chevrolet, identified by Kyle Police as Abdel Pastor, 45, was transported to Ascension Seton Hays where he was later pronounced dead.  According to Kyle Police, the driver of the gray Marinkovic displayed “multiple indicators of intoxication” and was arrested. January 31, 2024 – Kyle – A juvenile died Tuesday and another was apprehended by police after a chase that started in San Marcos and ended in the suspect vehicle crashing into a boulder in a rock quarry.  The San Marcos Police Department said officers started the chase early Tuesday morning after spotting a stolen Hyundai in San Marcos that was occupied by two juveniles from San Antonio. Officers tried to make a traffic stop but the driver fled south on Interstate 35, according to police. SMPD officers were helped by New Braunfels Police after crossing into New Braunfels city limits. The Hyundai eventually left the interstate and traveled down a gravel road and into a rock quarry in Comal County, then crashed into a boulder. The two occupants then got out of the car and ran, police said. The passenger ran toward an open quarry pit and died after falling about 70 feet. The driver of the car was apprehended by New Braunfels Police. (2)

January 23, 2024 – Manor – (1) Officials are investigating a fatal rollover crash that happened in Manor on Tuesday, where one person was possibly ejected, Austin-Travis County EMS said. Shortly after 2:30 p.m., Manor PD said it was helping the Travis County Sheriff’s Office in the 15600 block of North FM 973 with the crash.  Additionally, medics and the Travis County Emergency Services District 12 responded to the crash. One person was pronounced dead, medics said.  (1)
