Pedestrian vs Car

Location:     7200 block of S. Congress Avenue
Deceased:   Donald Langston | White male | February 23, 1965

The preliminary investigation shows that a white, 2003 BMW X5 was traveling southbound in the 7200 block of Congress Avenue when pedestrian Donald Langston stepped into the roadway. The driver slammed on his breaks, but was unable to stop in time to avoid striking Mr. Langston. Austin Fire Department personnel and Austin-Travis County EMS both attempting life-saving measures, but Donald Langston succumbed to his injuries on scene. The driver remained on site and showed no signs of impairment. No charges are expected.

Deceased:     Derrick Dewayne Wooley | Black male | June 4, 1987

The preliminary investigation shows that pedestrian Derrick Dewayne Wooley was in the roadway when he was struck by a black, 2015 Toyota Camry. A nurse, who was a passenger in a nearby vehicle, performed CPR on Mr. Wooley in an attempt to save him. He was ultimately pronounced deceased on scene.  The driver of the Toyota remained on scene. No charges are expected.

Deceased:    Alan Carrillo | Hispanic male | January 6, 1986

An Austin police officer was driving southbound on Ed Bluestein Boulevard when he passed by the construction area in the 3000 block and noted an oddly-positioned vehicle against a concrete wall. Upon approach, the officer realized the vehicle had been involved in a crash. He located the sole occupant, Alan Carillo, and found no pulse. He immediately began CPR until Austin Fire Department personnel arrived to take over. Alan Carrillo was transported by Austin-Travis County EMS to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced deceased at 10:43 p.m.

The preliminary investigation shows that Mona Monique Ramon was driving a silver, 2015 Ford Taurus eastbound in the 2400 block of Scofield Ridge Parkway when she left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a nearby tree. Ms. Ramon was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Deceased:    Narciso Mejia Gutierrez, Hispanic male, (D.O.B. 10-29-1955)

The preliminary investigation shows that pedestrian Narciso Mejia Gutierrez was walking in the 9000 block of Northgate Blvd. when he proceeded into the roadway. A southbound vehicle was able to stop just in time to avoid hitting Mr. Gutierrez as he stepped into traffic. Narciso Gutierrez continued crossing eastbound when he was struck by a northbound black, 2007 Honda Civic.   Austin-Travis County EMS transported Narciso Gutierrez to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he was rushed into surgery with life-threatening injuries. APD investigators were notified that Mr. Gutierrez succumbed to his injuries on December 21, 2020 at approximately 1:20 p.m.  The driver of the Honda Civic remained on scene. No charges are expected.

Deceased:   Jesse Jay Gomez Jr., White male, (D.O.B. 02-13-1985)

The preliminary investigation shows that pedestrian Jesse Gomez was in the 3100 block of Highway 71 just after 6 a.m. on December 18, 2020. Witnesses reported seeing him walking toward traffic, forcing multiple vehicles to swerve to avoid hitting him.  The driver of a black, 2016 Ford Expedition noticed vehicles ahead of him in the middle lane veering to the left. Assuming there was a traffic hazard ahead, he took evasive action and moved to the right, striking Jesse Gomez who was walking in the roadway.  Gomez was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the vehicle remained at the crash site. No charges are expected.

Deceased:   Narciso Mejia Gutierrez, 65

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department has identified a man hit and killed by a car in north Austin earlier this month.   APD says he is Narciso Mejia Gutierrez, 65.  The crash happened Dec. 18 at about 7 p.m. on Northgate Boulevard near Colony Creek Drive.  APD said the investigation found Gutierrez walked into the roadway. One car was able to stop before hitting him, but he was hit by a black 2007 Honda Civic.  Austin-Travis County EMS took Gutierrez to Dell Seton Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He underwent surgery, but died the afternoon of Dec. 21.

The preliminary investigation shows that the grey, 2006 Chevy Aveo driven by Danires Antonio Guerra-Mancia, was traveling southbound in the 8700 block of N. IH-35 service road when he lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway. The Aveo struck a wooden pole and came to rest on the driver’s side.   Mr. Guerra-Mancia was pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger in the Aveo suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

Arrested:     Gerardo Rene Barlow, White male, 32 years of age

The preliminary investigation shows that Gerardo Rene Barlow was driving a white, 2017 Chevrolet Malibu southbound in the outside lane of traffic in the 11500 block of N. IH-35 service road. Barlow struck Steven Lamont Hill who was riding a scooter in the same lane.   Mr. Hill was pronounced deceased on scene.  Gerardo Barlow fled to the nearby residence of an acquaintance where he was located by police. Upon arrival, officers conducted an investigation and arrested Barlow for DWI.

Deceased:   Nestor Phillip Yruegas, Hispanic male, (D.O.B. 12-18-70)

The preliminary investigation shows that the Nestor Phillip Yruegas was crossing mid-block in the 3400 block of E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in an attempt to catch the bus on Airport Blvd. when he was struck by a grey, 2017 Kia Sportage. Mr. Yruegas was pronounced deceased on scene.   The driver of the Sportage remained on site. No charges are expected.

Deceased:  Mario Eduardo Martinez-Buenrostro, 27

Austin Statesman – Austin police have identified a driver who was killed earlier this month after he veered into a construction zone and struck at least four workers.  According to a preliminary police investigation, 27-year-old Mario Eduardo Martinez-Buenrostro was driving south on MoPac Boulevard in a Honda Accord on Dec. 1, when he lost control of the vehicle.   “The Honda veered into the outside lane of traffic and into a construction zone where several workers were struck,” police said in a written statement Wednesday. “The crew was attempting to repair a guardrail at the time of the crash and had an attenuator along the shoulder and several working light boards to alert drivers to the crew’s presence.”  Police responded to the crash at 9:47 p.m. Martinez-Buenrostro was pronounced dead at the scene. Austin-Travis County EMS medics took four workers to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The preliminary investigation shows that a gray, 2012 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling southbound in the center lane near the 8800 block of N. IH 35 when a pedestrian crossed the highway from west to east. The driver of the Camaro struck the pedestrian. The case is still being investigated to determine whether charges will be filed.   The pedestrian, Ramon Caal Cho, was pronounced deceased on scene.

Truck vs Truck (Ran Red Light)

Location:     S. 1st and Annie streets
Deceased:   Linda Cadena, Hispanic female, D.O.B. 11-17-1962

The preliminary investigation shows that a grey 2021 Toyota Tundra was traveling southbound on S. 1st St. and a Dodge Ram was traveling westbound on Annie St. It is unknown which vehicle ran the red light, but the traffic violation caused a collision between the trucks. After the impact with the Tundra, the Dodge Ram struck a rock wall causing the truck to roll. The Dodge Ram truck came to rest on its roof.   All occupants of both vehicles were transported to nearby hospitals to be treated for their injuries.   One of the passengers in the Dodge Ram, Linda Cadena, was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where she died on November 20, 2020 from injuries sustained in the crash.

Deceased:   Black Female (release of name pending next of kin notification )

The preliminary investigation shows a black, 2014 Chevrolet Impala was southbound in the 1100 block of Airport Blvd. toward Goodwin Ave. when the vehicle made contact with the decedent, who was in a section of roadway undesignated for pedestrians. The driver of the Impala remained on scene to talk with responding officers.  The pedestrian was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where she died on November 19, 2020 as a result of her injuries.  The driver showed no indication of impairment and neither speed nor weather conditions appear to have been a factor in the crash. There are no criminal charges expected.

Car vs Car (Hit and Run)

Deceased:   Alan Wayne Goldsberry, White male, (D.O.B 1/4/1953)

The preliminary investigation shows that a black, 2013 Dodge Durango was traveling northbound in the outside lane of the 11200 block of Research Blvd., at approximately 9 p.m. on October 31, 2020. The truck braked suddenly and caused a tan, 2017 Honda CR-V, to stop abruptly. At the same time, another vehicle was traveling behind the Honda and had to swiftly change lanes to the left in order to avoid hitting the Honda. A grey, 2014 Jeep Wrangler was traveling behind this vehicle and was unable to stop prior to striking the rear of the Honda. The Honda then slammed into the Dodge DurangoThe Dodge left the scene without stopping, which is required by law.  A witness followed the Durango and was able to provide police with the license plate. The patrol officers on scene contacted the suspected driver of the truck. Detectives later interviewed him at which time he confessed to being the driver at the time of the multi-vehicle crash. No charges have been filed at this time as the case is still being investigated.   Alan Wayne Goldsberry, the driver of the Honda, was transported to Saint David’s Round Rock Medical Center where he died at 10:56 p.m. The passenger in the Honda was also transported to an area hospital and is in stable condition. The driver of the Jeep was transported to a nearby hospital, was treated and released. No one in the Dodge Durango was injured.

Pedestrian vs Car (Hit and Run)

Location:     9400 block of Burnet Rd.
Deceased:   White male, 42 years of age

The preliminary investigation shows that an unknown suspect vehicle was traveling northbound in the 9300 block of Burnet Rd. A red, 2010 Mazda sedan and a white, 2009 Ford Mustang was traveling somewhere behind the unknown suspect vehicle. A witness stated that she was traveling northbound in the outside lane of the 9300 block of Burnet Rd. and observed a pedestrian crossing the road from the east to west curb line. The witness stated that the pedestrian crossed the road without regard to vehicular traffic, without looking and not in a crosswalk. The unknown suspect vehicle struck the pedestrian in the inside lane as the pedestrian attempted to cross the road. After the collision, the suspect vehicle did not stop and continued driving. The witness could only describe the suspect vehicle as possibly a red car. She pulled immediately to the side of the road and observed other vehicles strike the pedestrian as he lay on the ground.  The driver of the Mazda said he never saw the initial auto-pedestrian crash and never saw the pedestrian laying in the roadway until it was too late. The driver of the Ford also said she never saw the pedestrian until it was too late. Both drivers pulled over and are fully cooperating with the investigation. The witness pulled her vehicle into the roadway in order to block traffic and prevent the pedestrian from being struck by more vehicles.   The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene at 7:47 p.m. This fatal auto-pedestrian crash is being investigated as a failure to stop and render aid case.

Deceased:   Unidentified White male

The preliminary investigation shows that a silver Honda Accord was traveling southbound in the inside lane of the 3800 block of S. U.S. Highway 183. For unknown reasons, the vehicle lost control, left the roadway and struck a telephone pole. The Honda then caught on fire. A witness to the crash, confirmed that it was a single-vehicle crash and no other people or vehicles were involved.   The sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene at 10:19 p.m. He remains unidentified at this time and next of kin has not been notified. It is believed alcohol may be a contributing factor in this crash.

Location:     12100 block of N. IH-35 NB Frontage
Deceased:   Michael Wayne Allen Parrish, White male, (D.O.B. 9/20/1994)

The preliminary investigation shows that a brown, 2008 Ford F350 was traveling northbound in the 12100 block of N. IH-35 NB Frontage when the driver moved to the outside (right lane) and struck a bicyclist who was riding on the far right section of the roadway.  The driver continued northbound before turning on to Techridge Blvd. where he stopped the vehicle in front of a QT gas station and fled on area on foot. The truck was located with heavy damage to the right, front corner panel.  The cyclist, later identified as Michael Wayne Allen Parrish, did not have a headlight or rear light on the bike. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.  Mr. Parrish was pronounced deceased on scene.

Deceased:   Armando De La Cruz, Hispanic male, (D.O.B 6/12/1987)

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2009 18-wheeler semi was traveling northbound in one of the inside lanes in the 7400 block of N. IH-35 NB when he moved over for an APD vehicle that had activated its lights to respond to a pedestrian the officer had observed walking against the inside concrete barrier.  At the same time, Armando De La Cruz, the pedestrian, sprinted eastbound into the path of the oncoming semi and was struck.  Mr. De La Cruz was pronounced on scene.  The driver of the truck remained at the crash site and cooperated with the investigation.  It does not appear that speed, lighting or driver impairment were factors in this crash.

Deceased:   Raymond Cipple, White male, (D.O.B 2/19/1966)

The preliminary investigation shows that a white, 2015 Dodge 350 was traveling southbound in the 1100 block of Airport Blvd. when Raymond Cipple, a pedestrian, attempted to cross the street midblock. Mr. Cipple was struck while walking toward the west curb line.  Raymond Cipple was pronounced deceased on site.  The driver of the truck remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.  It does not appear that driver impairment was a factor in this crash.

The preliminary investigation shows that the grey, 2015 Dodge Dart driven by India McKinley was traveling southbound in the outside lane in the 12600 block of N. IH-35 when the vehicle collided with a stationary City of Pflugerville fire truck. The fire truck, which had its emergency lights activated, was on scene assisting with another crash.

Truck vs Motorcycle (Intoxicated Manslaughter)

Deceased:   Jessica Sears, White female, (D.O.B 9/2/1987)
Arrested:    Amber Thompson, 39

The preliminary investigation shows that the black, 2005 Dodge Ram being driven by Amber Thompson, was southbound in the 6800 block of S. IH-35 SB proper when it struck an impact attenuator (crash cushion) on the Slaughter Lane off ramp. The truck ricochet into the center lane of traffic and collided with the grey, 2013 Harley Davidson on which Jessica Sears was riding.  Jessica Sears was pronounced deceased on scene.  Amber Thompson was placed under arrest. She is charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Deceased:   George Grant, White male, (D.O.B 7/22/1968)

The preliminary investigation shows George Grant was walking northbound in the inside lane in the 9200 block of Burnet Road. A black, 2005 Ford F-150, also traveling northbound on Burnet Road, struck him. The driver then fled the scene. The front panel of the truck is likely to have damage on the driver’s side.    George Grant was pronounced deceased on scene.

Location:     Springdale and U.S. Hwy 290
Deceased:   Jeffrey Bourgeois, White male, (D.O.B 12/31/1966)

The preliminary investigation shows that the grey, 2020 Toyota Corolla driven by Jeffrey Bourgeouis was traveling eastbound on U.S. Hwy 290 when a southbound grey, 2006 Honda Accord ran the red light at Springdale. The Accord struck the Corolla which then crashed into a silver, 2008 Nissan Quest.  The occupants in all three vehicles were transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas. Jeffrey Bourgeouis died at the hospital on October 9, 2020 from crash-related injuries.

Deceased:    Graham Blake Tillerson, White male, (D.O.B 08/27/1992)

The preliminary investigation shows that an unattended white, 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe was stalled in the outside lane of westbound traffic in the 6000 block of E. Stassney Lane. Graham Tillerson was riding a black, 2016 Indian Scout motorcycle in the same lane and swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting the stalled Tahoe, but struck the back left corner of the SUV.   Mr. Tillerson was transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 6:16 p.m.

Location:     13500 block S. IH 35 service road southbound
Deceased:    Kenneth Harlan Bee, Black male, D.O.B. 7-28-61

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2001, white Toyota Avalon was traveling southbound in the 13500 block of S. IH 35. The driver took Exit 221 onto the service road and then attempted to make a movement into the right lane that was occupied by another vehicle. The driver of the Toyota appears to have over-corrected to avoid a collision and lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway and striking a tree. The driver of the Toyota was pronounced deceased at the scene at 5:56 p.m.   The other vehicle never collided with the Toyota but that driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Deceased:   Herrera, Paul Joseph Hispanic male, (D.O.B 01-06-94)

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2004, maroon, Mercury Grand Marquis was northbound on IH 35 when the left front of the vehicle struck the right rear of an 18-wheeler. The 18-wheeler was also traveling northbound on IH 35, in the center lane when traffic started to slow down due to construction. The driver of the 18-wheeler was moving very slowly and almost stopped when he felt something strike him from behind.

Deceased:   Austin Boggus, White male, D.O.B. 5/17/1982

The preliminary investigation indicates that the silver, 2016 Ford Escape driven by Austin Boggus was southbound in the 9100 block of Research Blvd. when the vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason. The Escape crossed over into the grassy median where it traveled approximately 340 feet before striking the concrete base of a sign.  Austin Boggus was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he died from his injuries on September 18, 2020.

Truck vs Pedestrian (Failed to Yield to Crosswalk)

Location:      Ferguson Lane and Cameron Rd.
Deceased:     Martina Venancio-Cabrera, Hispanic female, D.O.B. 6/18/81

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2015 Ford F-550 was heading west on Ferguson Ln. when the driver attempted to turn northbound on to Cameron Rd. while at a red light. A pedestrian, identified as Martina Venancio-Cabrera, was walking southbound on the east sidewalk of Cameron Rd. and was attempting to cross Ferguson Ln. in the crosswalk. The F-550 failed to yield right of way and struck her. Martina Venancio-Cabrera was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where she was pronounced deceased at 9:37 a.m.  The driver of the F-550 remained on scene and cooperated. A citation for fail to yield right of way was issued.

Deceased:   Ruben Krumholz, White male, D.O.B. 10/10/1956

The preliminary investigation shows that the silver, 2011 Kawasaki Motorcycle on which Ruben Krumolz was traveling northbound in the 12000 block of Research Blvd NB, left the roadway for an unknown reason. The bike crossed over the shoulder and struck a concrete barrier before making contact with a pole.   Ruben Krumholz was pronounced deceased on scene at 1:04 p.m.  There is no indication that speed or weather were factors in the crash.

Deceased:   Lisa Vann, White female, D.O.B. 8/24/1963

The preliminary investigation shows that Lisa Vann was standing in the middle of the street in the 300 block the westbound E. Ben White svrd. A dark-colored, 4-door sedan struck her. The driver then left the scene. Lisa Vann was transported to South Austin Medical Center in stable condition.   On September 9, 2020, investigators were notified that Ms. Vann died as result of the injuries she sustained in the crash.   This is an ongoing investigation. The preliminary investigation shows that a pedestrian was crossing the street, mid-block, northbound in the 1000 block of East Rundberg Lane. A black, 2020 Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound in the outside lane of traffic. The driver did not see the pedestrian, but after striking something, she stopped and realized it was a pedestrian. The driver called 911 and remained on scene for emergency personnel to arrive. The pedestrian was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas with life threatening injuries.  On August 25, 2020, at approximately 11:45 a.m. the pedestrian died due to injuries from the crash.

The preliminary investigation shows that a bicyclist was riding eastbound in the center lane of traffic in the 5500 block of the E. Ben White service road. Due to poor lighting, lack of tail lights and rear reflectors on the bicycle, a 2013, black Nissan Rogue rear-ended it.  Elias Jurado was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Nissan remained on scene and cooperated. No charges are expected at this time.

On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at approximately 10:26 p.m., Austin police responded to a crash at Lake Creek Parkway and the 183 frontage road. The preliminary investigation indicates that Travis Larson was riding a bicycle eastbound on Lake Creek Parkway when he ran the light and collided with a silver, 2013 Toyota Corolla that was traveling southbound on the 183 frontage road.  The driver of the Corolla performed CPR in an attempt to save Mr. Larson, but was unsuccessful. He was pronounced deceased on scene.

On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at approximately 6:44 a.m., Austin police responded to multiple calls about a five-car incident in the 7600 block of FM 620. The preliminary investigation indicates that Jacob Byrd was attempting to make a left turn out of Tin Tara apartments located at 7655 FM 620 when he collided with a white, 2014 Jeep Cherokee that was northbound. Jacob Byrd was ejected from the blue, 2008 Honda Accord he was driving at which time three other eastbound vehicles became involved.  The driver of a white or silver SUV slammed on her brakes, presumably to avoid striking Mr. Byrd, when she was hit by a black, 2020 Acura Integra. The Integra was then rear ended by a silver, 2010 Toyota Tacoma.  The driver of the SUV, described as a White female, estimated to be in her mid-40s with short blonde or grey hair and a thin build, got out of the vehicle to check on the driver of the Integra before fleeing the scene. The SUV, pictured below, has damage to the backside.  Jacob Byrd was pronounced deceased on scene at 7:10 a.m.

On Sunday, August 23, 2020, at approximately 3:57 p.m., Austin police responded to the an auto vs. pedestrian crash in the 3900 block of S. Lamar Blvd. A 2016 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on S. Lamar Blvd. approaching an intersection controlled by a  traffic control device. A vehicle was stopped in the left turn lane at a red light. The driver of the Toyota swerved left of the stopped vehicle, going onto the center cement median that divides north and southbound traffic on Lamar Blvd. The driver of the Toyota struck a pedestrian on the center median and continued travelling southbound before coming to rest. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger in the Toyota did not sustain any injuries. The driver of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was charged with intoxication manslaughter.

On Monday, August 10, 2020, at approximately 1:22 p.m., Austin police responded to the 12600 block of Dessau Road for a two-vehicle collision. The preliminary investigation shows that Inez Whitener was driving a red, 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage eastbound on Bradbury when she entered the Dessau intersection and was struck by a white, 2012 Nissan Armada traveling southbound through the same cross streets.
Ms. Whitener was transported to Saint David’s Round Rock Medical Center where she passed away on August 21, 2020 from crash injuries. The driver of the Nissan Armada sustained minor injuries. She was cited on scene for no driver’s license and failure to maintain financial responsibility.

On Saturday, August 15, 2020, at approximately 10:57 p.m., Austin police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 8500 block of FM 969. The preliminary investigation shows that the vehicle, a white, 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling southbound on Decker Lane when the driver proceeded through the green light at Decker and 969 before losing control of the truck. The truck crashed through thick underbrush and trees and knocked down a fence before coming to stop, facing northbound. Witnesses on scene assisted in getting the driver and the passenger in the rear passenger’s seat out of the Silverado. The passenger on the rear driver’s side, Alfonso Sanchez Angeles, was pronounced deceased on scene. The other passenger was treated and released.  The driver, Juan Manuel Aboyles-Garcia, was transported to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries. He was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. Aboyles-Garcia is currently in the Travis County Jail with a $50,000 bond.

On August 3, 2020, at approximately 5:50 a.m., 9-1-1 received a call reporting a body in the 1500 block of Hwy 71. Upon arrival, officers discovered 41-year-old Miguel Angel Rodriguez with obvious trauma to his body. The bicycle he had been riding when he was hit was located nearby.  The preliminary investigation indicates that Miguel Rodriguez was struck by multiple vehicles. The drivers of two of those vehicles remained at the scene at which time it was determined that neither was the first vehicle to have come in contact with Mr. Rodriguez. That person did not remain at the scene.

On Saturday, August 1, 2020 at approximately 7:54 p.m., Austin police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 11700 block of S. Mopac Expy (near the intersection of S. Mopac and Archelata Blvd) where they discovered a grey, 2019 McLaren 600. The passenger in the car, later identified as Andrea Silvio Granzotti, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased on scene at 8:01 p.m. The driver was transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center by STAR Flight with life-threatening injuries.  The preliminary investigation shows that the McLaren was traveling east on S. Mopac Expy at a high rate of speed when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a concrete pillar. It is believed that speed was a factor. It is unknown at this point whether driver impairment contributed to the crash.

On July 10, 2020 at approximately 7:29 a.m., APD officers responded to an automobile versus pedestrian collision in the 700 block of E. Stassney Ln. The initial investigation showed that a 2015, grey Honda Civic was traveling EB on E. Stassney Ln. near Mira Ln. when it collided with a pedestrian identified as Charlotte Dukes. The driver of the Honda remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The pedestrian was transported to St. David’s South Austin Hospital with life-threatening injuries but died as a result of her injuries on July 30, 2020 at 4:47 p.m.

On Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at approximately 11:50 p.m., APD officers responded to a single vehicle crash in the 10500 block of N. IH-35. The initial investigation shows that the green, 2005 Honda Accord driven by Alejandro Huerta Hernadez left the east side of the roadway and proceeded through a grassy median before striking a cement base that held a highway sign. The initial officer attempted to make contact with the unresponsive driver, but the Accord quickly caught fire. The driver’s side door would not open so he smashed the rear driver’s side window in an attempt to extricate Alejandro Hernandez through the back seat as the fire spread to the passenger’s side.  The Austin Fire Department arrived on scene to begin battling the vehicle fire. Officers on scene worked together to pry the passenger’s side door open where they were able to remove Alejandro Hernandez. They carried him away from the vehicle so fire personnel and Austin-Travis County EMS could attempt life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, Alejandro Hernandez was pronounced on scene at 12:34 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2020.

On Friday, July 17, 2020, at approximately 9:43 a.m., APD officers responded to an auto-pedestrian crash in the 800 block of E. Rundberg Lane. The initial investigation shows that a white, 2002 Hyundai Accent was traveling eastbound when the vehicle made contact with Ronnie Dawson Lindsey. Witnesses reported Ronnie Lindsey was attempting to cross Rundberg Lane from north to south when the collision occurred.  Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS worked to revive Ronnie Lindsey. He was transported by Austin-Travis County EMS to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he died on July 24, 2020 at 2:17 p.m.  The driver of the Hyundai remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators. It does not appear that impairment or speed were a factor in this crash.

Despite life-saving attempts by Austin-Travis County EMS, Gilbert Cortinas was pronounced deceased on scene at 11:48 p.m.  The driver of the Sienna remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators. It does not appear that impairment or speed were a factor in this crash.

(Statesman.com) Austin police on Tuesday identified two teens killed last week in a crash involving multiple vehicles.  Julian Murillo, 15, and Gabriel Marmolejo, 16, were traveling in a black Nissan sedan early Friday when police said they ran a red light and were struck by a box truck at the intersection of Cameron Road and East Anderson Lane.  A gold Chevrolet sedan, which was stopped at a red light at the intersection, was then hit by the black sedan, police said.  Both Murillo and Marmolejo were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Police did not say who was driving their vehicle, which police said had been reported stolen on July 2.  The person driving the gold sedan was treated for minor injuries at Dell Seton Medical Center, police said.

On Friday, July 24, 2020, at approximately 12:41 a.m., 911 received multiple calls reporting a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of S. IH 35. At approximately 12:43 a.m., additional calls stated that the 2017, gray Nissan Altima driven by Jose Martin Zamarripa, had collided head on with the 2003, gold Chevrolet Silverado driven by Brian Allen Tucker. APD officers responded to the collision in the 13700 block of S. IH 35 northbound proper where they discovered the Silverado and the travel trailer it was pulling fully engulfed in flames.

The preliminary investigation shows that the Nissan was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes for unknown reasons. When the Nissan and the Silverado collided, Brian Allen Tucker was ejected from the Silverado. He was pronounced deceased on scene at 12:57 a.m. Jose Martin Zamarripa was partially ejected from the Nissan. He was also pronounced deceased on scene at 12:57 a.m. The passenger in the Silverado was able to exit the vehicle prior to the vehicle catching fire thanks to the assistance of an off-duty UTPD officer who witnessed the crash. She was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.

On Thursday, July 23, 2020 at approximately 1:34 a.m., APD officers responded to what appears to be a vehicle versus pedestrian collision in the 9100 block of Research Blvd. on the southbound proper. The preliminary investigation shows that a pedestrian was in the roadway for an unknown reason and unknown circumstances. The pedestrian appears to have been struck by a vehicle. The driver/vehicle that struck the pedestrian did not stop and is unknown at this time. Several motorists who were passing by after the pedestrian had already been hit, stopped and called 9-1-1. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on-scene at 1:56 a.m. This incident is being investigated as a criminal matter.

IH-35 proper when the unidentified Hispanic male, estimated to be in his mid-20s, attempted to cross the interstate from west to east and was struck. Austin police, fire and Austin-Travis County EMS all attempted life-saving measures, but the pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene at 4:53 a.m.  The driver of the Elantra remained on scene and has been cooperative with investigators. Based on information gathered thus far, it does not appear that driver impairment, speed or weather/road conditions were factors in this crash. No charges are anticipated.

The driver of the Pilot appears to have lost control of the vehicle, hitting a guardrail and a concrete pillar. The driver and passenger were pronounced deceased on the scene at 6:05 a.m. A child passenger was air lifted to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Upon arrival, officers found the boyfriend of the victim, who had been in a nearby vehicle, attempting to render aid. Austin Fire Department personnel arrived and took over. Shelby Bean was transported by Austin-Travis County EMS to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where she died at 7:46 p.m.   The preliminary investigation shows that Ms. Bean was driving a white, 2015 Subaru Forester southbound on N. Lamar Boulevard when the vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason and collided with a utility pole.

On Monday, June 22, 2020, at approximately 7:23 p.m., the Austin Police Department received multiple 911 calls about a single-vehicle collision that originated in the 10600 block of Brownie Drive. Upon arrival, officers found a white, 2013 Chevrolet Silverado truck with a passenger who had been badly injured.  Eber Misael Castillo Ortiz was pronounced deceased on scene at approximately 7:32 p.m.  The preliminary investigation shows that the Chevrolet Silverado was northbound in the 10600 block of Brownie Drive when it left the roadway for unknown reasons and collided with a stone mailbox and chain-link fence on a property in the 500 block of East Grady Drive. The as-yet unidentified driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival.

On Sunday, June 21, 2020, at approximately 6:27 p.m., a 2002, green Chevrolet was traveling northbound on the U.S. Highway 183 service road near the 8200 block when a 1998, silver Honda entered the U.S. Highway 183 service road from a stopped position on Jamestown Dr. The Honda entered the center lane and into the path of the Chevrolet. The Chevrolet struck the back-left quarter panel of the Honda and veered off the roadway. The Chevrolet drove across dirt and gravel and then struck a concrete bridge support on the back-right passenger side of the vehicle, killing the passenger. The other occupants in the Chevrolet were transported to a nearby hospital for precautionary measures.   The driver of the Honda remained on scene and cooperated.

On Sunday, June 21, 2020, at approximately 4:58 p.m., APD officers were dispatched to a motorcycle versus automobile crash at the intersection of FM 2222 and City Park Rd. The preliminary investigation shows that a 2009, black Yamaha motorcycle was traveling westbound in the 6500 block of FM 2222 and was attempting to make a left turn to go south onto the 6400 block of City Park Rd. It appears the motorcycle failed to yield the right of way to a 2013, white Acura RDX and was struck by the oncoming SUV which was traveling eastbound in the 6600 block of FM 2222. Victim was pronounced deceased on scene at 5:25 p.m. The motorcycle driver was wearing a helmet and other protective gear and had a valid Texas driver’s license with motorcycle endorsement. The driver of the SUV remained on scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. At this time, it is not believed that driver impairment or speeding were factors in this crash.

A pedestrian who was struck while crossing Rundberg Lane in Northeast Austin last month has died, Austin police said.  Officers responded on July 17 at 9:43 a.m. to the 800 block of East Rundberg Lane, just off of Interstate 35.  Investigators found that a white 2002 Hyundai Accent was traveling east on Rundberg Lane when it hit 71-year-old Ronnie Dawson Lindsey as he tried to cross the street from north to south.  Austin-Travis County EMS medics and Austin fire officials tried to revive Lindsey at the scene.  He was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center, where he died on July 24 at 2:17 p.m., marking the 52nd traffic death in Austin this year.   The driver of the Hyundai remained at the scene of the crash and is cooperating with investigators, police said.

The preliminary investigation shows that an Austex Flatbed truck struck a female pedestrian in the 3900 block of N IH 35. The preliminary investigation shows that the pedestrian was walking westbound across IH 35 on the highway in the 3900 block. The vehicle was in the right lane when the driver saw another vehicle slow but didn’t know why. The truck moved to the left lane to avoid the other vehicle and struck the pedestrian who had started walking into the left lane. The driver applied the brakes but struck the pedestrian with the right side of the vehicle. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene at 12:10 a.m.

The Austin Police Department responded to the scene after receiving several reports of a body in the roadway. Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Davis, who was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he died a short time later.

The preliminary investigation shows that a grey, 2010 Mazda M3i driven by 27-year-old Gary Joseph Brauneis, was traveling northbound on the U.S. 183 service road when it struck the back of a white, 2014 GMC truck sitting at the red light at Pond Springs Road. The impact pushed the truck forward into the intersection while the Mazda continued northbound before driving up on to the sidewalk, striking Ginger Mattox.  The M3i ultimately came to a stop when it crashed into a nearby building.  The driver of the GMC truck was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Ginger Mattox was transported to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center where she died shortly thereafter.  Gary Brauneis was arrested and booked into the Williamson County Jail.  He is charged with DWI and intoxication manslaughter.

The preliminary investigation shows that a silver, 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling southbound in the middle lane of the 12200 block of N. IH 35 southbound. A pedestrian was attempting to cross from the center median to the west side of the highway when he was struck by the Mercury. The driver of the Mercury immediately took the next exit, pulled into a gas station and waited for police. The driver is cooperating with the investigation. It is not believed that driver impairment, speeding, or weather/road conditions were factors in this incident. Life-saving measures were attempted on the pedestrian by the Austin Fire Department (AFD) and Austin-Travis County EMS, but the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and died on scene at 3:05 a.m.

The preliminary investigation shows that a tan, 2004 GMC SUV and a white, 2018 Hino van were traveling parallel in the southbound lanes in the 12300 block of Metric Blvd. The vehicles came into contact with each other for an unknown reason. The contact forced the van over the center median and into the northbound lanes of travel where it collided with an oncoming red, 2012 Mitsubishi Galant. A passenger in the Galant, James Henry Omary, sustained life-threatening injuries and died upon arrival at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center. There were four other occupants in the Galant who also sustained varying degrees of injury.  The drivers of the GMC and the Hino were uninjured and remained on scene.

The Jeep traveled along the grassy median for approximately one quarter mile and then struck the concrete base for a street light tower. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced deceased on scene.

A white, 2016 Izuzu box truck was traveling southbound in the outside lane and collided with the back end of the Nissan. The driver of the Nissan was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where she was pronounced deceased at 1:12 p.m.

The rider was ejected from the Honda motorcycle and thrown to the ground below.
The rider died on scene. He has been identified as 32-year-old Rocky Anthony Bell.

Parmer Lane when she failed to yield to a grey, 2008 Mercedes-Benz ML3. The ML3 struck the passenger’s side of the Hummer. The two child passengers in the Hummer were transported to Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas for treatment of their injuries. One of those children, nine-year-old Daminik Lopez, died from her injuries on April 4, 2020. The other underwent emergency surgery for critical injuries.   The driver of the ML3, 34-year-old Cain Perez Estrada, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was subsequently arrested for DWI which is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2017, dark gray Cadillac CTS was traveling southbound in the 2300 block of S. 1st St. at a high rate of speed. The driver ran the red light at the intersection of S. 1st and W. Oltorf St. and then collided with a telephone pole in the 2400 block of S. 1st St.  The passenger in the vehicle, Samuel Adam Williams, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. David’s South Austin Hospital. He passed away on March 23, 2020 at 1:25 a.m.   The driver of the Cadillac, Sebastian Michael Dean, was arrested and charged with intoxication assault. Updated charges of intoxication manslaughter are pending against Dean.   In December 2021, Dean was sentenced to eight years probation after pleading guilty to manslaughter charges after accused of running a red light and smashing into a telephone pole, killing a passenger in the car.  They say he was speeding, ran a red light at Oltorf Street and then hit a telephone pole.

A man was killed Saturday after police say he was hit by a car while exiting his driveway in East Austin.  According to a preliminary police investigation, a 2005 red Honda Accord was exiting a private driveway along the 7800 block of FM 969 on Saturday as the driver attempted to turn westbound onto FM 969. Meanwhile, police added, a 2020 silver Chevrolet Equinox was traveling eastbound on the outside lane of FM 969 before striking the drivers’ side of the exiting vehicle.  The driver of the car that was hit, Calvin Charles Bench, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The driver of the other vehicle, Anthony Michael DeLeon, 28, was charged with DWI, police said. However, police said alcoholic consumption did not factor into the crash: “Although he was arrested for DWI, his intoxication was not a contributing factor in the crash,” police wrote in a press advisory.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2014, white Ford Focus was traveling southbound in the right lane of the 10500 block of Menchaca Rd. when it struck a pedestrian who was walking from east to west. The pedestrian penetrated the windshield of the Ford. The driver continued to drive southbound for approximately half a mile. The driver stopped the car, exited the vehicle and walked away from the scene. He was taken into custody a short time later. The pedestrian, identified as Lee Martin Cagle, died at the scene.  The driver of the Ford Focus, Paul Joseph Garcia, was arrested and transported to the Travis County Jail where he was booked for fail to stop and render aid, intoxication manslaughter and driving under the influence.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police have identified a man killed in a parking lot crash at a motel Feb. 8.  Alejandro Aguilera, 40, was driving a 2019 Yamaha motorcycle when he hit a parked car, a 2011 Nissan Sentra in the parking lot of a hotel in the 6600 block of the North Interstate 35 service road. The Nissan was parked legally, police say, and Aguilera was thrown from the motorcycle.  Police say Aguilera wasn’t wearing a helmet. He was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas at Austin. Aguilera died of his injuries Feb. 15.

The pedestrian, identified as Theodore Tjomsland, died at the scene.

Rundberg Lane when the driver attempted to turn left onto northbound Teasdale Terrace.   A white, 2007 Ford F150 moving westbound on Rundberg collided with the passenger’s side of the Mitsubishi.   Vincent Laroy Cleveland was transported to Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin following the crash where he died on February 10, 2020 at 3:50 p.m. as a result of his injuries. Based on information gathered during the ongoing investigation, it does not appear that driver impairment or speed were factors in the crash. All parties remained on scene and cooperated.

Prior to the crash, the Saturn was heading north in the inside lane of Mearns Meadow Blvd. and had a green light.
The driver of the Mitsubishi was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. The driver of the Saturn was pronounced deceased on scene.

The pedestrian came to rest in the inside, northbound lane of Bluff Springs Rd. where he was struck by a 2002, green Mazda Protégé that was traveling northbound.   The pedestrian was transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at 3:24 a.m.   The driver of the Nissan contacted police when he heard there had been a fatality. The Nissan has since been impounded. The Mazda remained on the scene. No arrests have been made at this time.

The Avalon appears to have lost control for unknown reasons at which time the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a group of trees on the south curb line. Jaymes Anthony Torres, Sr. was transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center where he died on February 4, 2020 at 9:23 a.m. as a result of his injuries.   It is unknown if driver impairment or speeding were factors in the crash. It does not appear that weather or road conditions were factors.

The preliminary investigation shows that this was a five-vehicle crash. The signal lights at the intersection of W. Rundberg Ln. and Collinfield Dr. were inoperable due to a power outage in the area. A 2013 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound in the 1100 block of Rundberg Ln. approaching the intersection of W. Rundberg Ln. and Collinfield Dr. A 1999 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound in the 1000 block of Mearns Meadow Blvd., preparing to turn eastbound onto the 1000 block of W. Rundberg Ln. A 2015 Buick LaCrosse was traveling northbound in the 9300 block of Collinfield Dr. approaching the intersection with W. Rundberg Ln.   A 2004 Ford Expedition was stopped facing westbound at the intersection of W. Rundberg Ln. and Collinfield Dr. as a 2018 Ford Mustang was pulling up behind the Mustang, preparing to stop.   The Chevrolet Silverado, Toyota Camry and Buick LaCrosse entered the intersection at the same time. The Chevrolet Silverado collided into the driver’s side of the Buick LaCrosse and into the front of the Toyota Camry.   Debris from the crash damaged the Ford Expedition and after the initial crash, the Buick Lacrosse collided into the Ford Mustang.   Two of the occupants of the Chevrolet Silverado and two of the occupants of the Toyota Camry were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Buick LaCrosse was transported to Dell-Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he died as a result of his injuries at 10:54 a.m.   It is not believed that driver impairment, weather or road conditions were factors in the crash. The cause of the power outage for the signal lights is unknown at this time but is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.   APD would like to remind the public to treat any intersection with signal outages as a 4-way stop.

He slid into the path of a westbound white, 2016 Ford Explorer that was attempting to turn southbound on to Metric Boulevard. The impact of the crash caused the Ford Explorer to roll on its side.  The driver of the Ford Explorer, Lisa Lene Aiken, was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries before being arrested for driving while intoxicated.

He was transported to St David’s South Austin Medical Center where he died on January 26, 2020.    The area where Juan Palacios and his companion were crossing was dark and there are no crosswalks in the area. No charges are expected to be filed in this case.

(Update from November 10, 2020: Austin Jorge Lopez-Dominguez was sentenced to five years deferred adjudication following the January 15th deadly southeast Austin racing crash.   Lopez-Dominguez’s racing on a highway charge in the case was dismissed, after it was found he and the victim were “consensually racing one another” when the crash happened, according to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office.  The district attorney’s office also said Lopez-Dominguez initially left the scene of the accident but voluntarily returned and cooperated with law enforcement.)

The preliminary investigation shows that a silver, 2012 Chevrolet truck and a red, 2005, Infinity sedan were in the parking lot near the 7600 block of Bluff Springs Rd. when they decided to have a road race. The Chevrolet truck and the Infiniti drove south near the 8200 block of Bluff Springs Rd. to start the race. The Chevrolet truck was in the left lane and the Infiniti was in the right lanes of northbound Bluff Springs Rd. As they raced, the Infiniti pulled way ahead of the Chevrolet truck. As the Infiniti approached the 7600 block of Bluff Springs Rd., the Infiniti attempted to turn left into the parking lot where they had previously been sitting. The Chevrolet truck hit the driver’s side of the Infiniti as it was attempting the turn. The Infiniti spun several times and came to final rest against a pole on the west side of the roadway. The driver of the Infiniti was transported to St. David’s South Austin Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries at 12:18 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2020. The driver of the Chevrolet truck initially fled the scene after the crash but returned to the scene later.   Jorge Luis Lopez-Dominguez was arrested and has been charged with two second degree felonies, racing on a highway and fail to stop and render aid. His total bond amount is $100,000.

The preliminary investigation shows that Leon Jay Harvey was driving a white, 2015 Toyota Prius in the right lane in the 12600 block of N. Mopac Expressway SB when he attempted to take the exit and struck a barrier. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to re-enter the roadway, putting it in the path of a black, 2013 Ford F150 that collided with the passenger’s side of the Prius.   The driver of the Ford was uninjured and remained on scene. Leon Jay Harvey was pronounced deceased on site. Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash. There are no charges expected.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2014, silver Ford Focus was traveling northbound in the inside lane of the 1100 block of Airport Blvd. The Focus struck a pedestrian who was crossing Airport Blvd. from the west to east curb line. A 2020, blue Toyota Tacoma was traveling behind the Focus and also struck the pedestrian while he was laying in the roadway.   Both drivers remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation. Driver impairment is not believed to be a factor in this auto-pedestrian collision and no charges are expected at this time.  The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. It is believed the pedestrian may have been impaired.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2006 BMW BX5 was traveling westbound on Loyola Ln. when it struck a pedestrian who was walking from south to north across the roadway. The elderly pedestrian, along with another family member, were standing in the center median that divides east to westbound lanes of Loyola Ln. The pedestrian began to walk across Loyola Ln. and was struck in the middle of the roadway. The driver of the BMW remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. No charges are expected at this time.   The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene.

The driver was transported to St. David’s South Austin Hospital where she passed away not long after arrival


Greater Austin Area Fatal Crashes

December 29One person is dead, and three others are hurt after a crash Tuesday night near South Business 35 and McQueeney Road in New Braunfels following a single-vehicle rollover crash at about 11:45 p.m.  A Ford Explorer had lost control and rolled over, hurting four adults inside including the driver, who was ejected.   The driver, identified as 47-year old Carlye James Donaldson of San Antonio died, police said. Tthe New Braunfels Police Traffic Unit determined that speed, alcohol and drugs may have been contributing factors in the crash.

December 20  Investigators are looking for the suspect in a hit-and-run crash that left 56-year-old Lidia Mancha dead on the side of the road in Kyle.  It happened on County Road 127—also known as High Road—near Green Pastures. That’s a couple miles east of Kyle. The Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

December 21  Ashley Lynn Minar, 30-year-old New Braunfels woman died in a single-car crash after hitting a large highway sign pillar early Sunday morning on Interstate 35 in San Marcos.  Police say the crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on I-35 northbound near the 204-mile marker. High speeds and potential driver impairment are suspected causes for the crash when a white 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer hit a retaining wall before losing control and crossing over three lanes of traffic. The car went through a guardrail and hit the pillar on the driver’s side.  This is the 15th traffic fatality in San Marcos this year, according to the release.

December 8  A fiery crash that killed 28-year-old Matthew Beringer of Austin late Tuesday night on State Highway 130.  EMS says one person was declared dead at the scene of the crash between a car and a semi truck on southbound SH 130 near FM 812 in southeast Travis County just before 11 p.m.  DPS reported a 2020 Kenworth tractor trailer was heading southbound on the highway. For unknown reasons, a 2016 Dodge Ram heading north in the southbound lanes of SH 130 hit the front left of the Kenworth. The Dodge’s driver was pronounced dead on scene, DPS said.  The area of the crash is just west of Circuit of the Americas.

December 1  DPS identified two elderly people who died after a crash involving an 18-wheeler on FM 1826 earlier this week.  The crash happened last Tuesday morning. The 18-wheeler was heading northbound on the highway when a Kia Optima driving on Delea Drive tried to turn left onto 1826. Left turns are not permitted in that spot, and the intersection was designated with a “no left turn” sign, DPS said.  As a result, the two vehicles collided. The Kia’s driver, Gary Borag, 69, and the passenger, Georgia Borag, 70, were both pronounced dead on scene, DPS said.

(Update from 2018: Buda –   A Kyle man plead guilty to intoxication manslaughter Thursday after a crash killed a passenger in his car almost two years ago.  Cade Brown was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but the sentence was suspended for 10 years, during which time he’ll be on community supervision. He will report to jail on Dec. 10 for 180 days as a condition of his probation.   This is related to a crash that happened in late November 2018 on Dove Drive and Treetop Way, police previously reported. Brown said he was going 75 to 80 mph when he left the road and hit a tree. The speed limit in the area is 35 mph.   At the time, Brown told police he had been drinking for most of the day. His passenger that was in the car with him, 21-year-old Kaleb Nielson, was killed in the crash.)

November 14  DPS reports that 43-year-old Seth Joplin, of Red Rock, was killed after attempting to cross FM 812 on foot.  The crash happened around 7 p.m. Nov. 14 on FM 812 in southeast Travis County.  The man was struck by a 2020 Toyota Tundra containing a driver and one passenger.

November 13 A 14-year-old boy died after being hit by a driver off State Highway 29 in Williamson County Saturday night at around 8:30 p.m.  The driver of a 2010 Toyota Prius and the bicyclist were both traveling east on the highway, and when they came to an unlit portion of the road, the driver hit the boy. The sergeant said the bicyclist did not have lights on.

November 11 A community is mourning with the family of two teens, a brother and sister, killed in a fatal car crash on Wednesday, Nov 11.  According to Pflugerville police, the fatal collision happened on the southbound access road of State Highway 130 near Pflugerville Parkway on Wednesday morning. A spokesperson with the police department was unable to confirm additional details as the investigation is ongoing.  But family members of 15-year-old Lee Anthony Fisher and his sister, 17-year-old Le’Nyce Fisher, said both teens were killed in that car crash.  Family members spoke to KVUE on Tuesday. They said the siblings were students at Weiss High School.  The family said Le’Nyce picked up her brother and they were driving along Pflugerville Parkway Wednesday morning when they say a car, ran a red light, and struck theirs. The horrible news came as a shock.  Armanee Head continues to reflect on the plethora of memories she shared with her cousins, “Not my cousins. No that never happens in our family, we don’t lose people like that. They are good people,” said Head.  Le’Nyce played volleyball and basketball. Lee Anthony played basketball, football, and baseball. “They were amazing people. They were athletes, they had so much going for them. We were going to graduate together,” said Head.

November 10 A man is accused of murder after a car crash that killed a woman early Wednesday morning on U.S. Highway 290 in Manor.  The Manor Police Department says Candelario Flores, 40, is alleged to have been driving while intoxicated at the time of the crash. State records show he has three previous DWI convictions.  MPD says Flores was speeding in a Ford F-350 when he hit the back of a white sedan around 1:40 a.m., causing the death of Noemi Calderon. She was a passenger in the car.  Following the crash, MPD says Flores fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended shortly after.  The department is requesting a murder charge “due to causing the death of another person while committing a felony.”   According to court records, Flores was serving a five-year probation sentence because of his last DWI in 2017. He’s been arrested for DWI in 2013, 2014 and 2017 and has been convicted all three times.  Along with the murder charge, Flores faces an additional charge of evading with previous convictions, MPD says.

November 1 A 33-year-old man from New Braunfels was charged with intoxication manslaughter after a woman died Sunday in a crash on Highway 46.  Jacob Perez was taken to Guadalupe County Jail and charged after he took a standard field sobriety tests and a blood test at the hospital. The crash was in the 2500 block of Highway 46 South at Center Street around 2:15 a.m. when  a Dodge pickup truck and blue Kia Optima hit each other head-on.  The truck was heading northbound toward New Braunfels when it crossed over into the southbound lanes and hit the Kia. The truck then rolled over onto its side, officers said.  28-year old Sevannah Shay Mata from Olmos, Texas, was pronounced dead on scene, officers said.

October 21ATCEMS said a person was killed in a crash near Lake Travis.   DPS said the driver killed is 56-year-old Thomas Martinez of Taylor. DPS said the accident took place around 3:12 p.m. in the 4200 block of RM 620, near Mansfield Dam Road.  Martinez, who was driving a 2005 Chevy Tahoe, was traveling westbound in the left lane and crossed the center turn lane into the eastbound lane and hit a 2017 Volvo semi-truck. After hitting the truck, Martinez reportedly went back into the westbound lanes and crashed into a 2020 Subaru Outback, DPS said.

October 18 A 21-year-old motorcyclist from New Braunfels died at the hospital following a crash on Sunday evening.  New Braunfels identified the man as Gregory Casey.  It happened around 6 p.m. in the area of State Highway 46 South near Alves Lane.   The crash involved a woman from Sinton driving an SUV. She was not injured.   At last report, New Braunfels police said there was no indication that alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.

October 17 A man is dead after a pursuit involving New Braunfels Police officers on Saturday night ended in a crash, police said.  Officers were called to reports of an allegedly intoxicated man who was threatening people in the 1200 block of Gruene Road at about 10:50 p.m. on Saturday.  The man, later identified as 43-year-old Ryan Ingle, fled the scene in a Toyota Tacoma, sparking a police pursuit which ended when the truck crashed into a Chevrolet Camaro.  The New Braunfels Police Department said that the chase started when off-duty law enforcement officers who were providing security in the Gruene Road area approached Ingle, who fled on foot.  NBPD said Ingle refused to exit the Tacoma and reversed quickly, nearly striking the officer again, and sped away on Loop 337 towards Common Street.   The truck eventually collided with the Camaro near the intersection of Loop 337 and Hanz Drive. Police said the crash caused the truck to roll over, ejecting the driver.

October 15 A woman killed in a single-car crash in east Travis County Thursday night has been identified by the Texas Department of Public Safety.  Austin-Travis County EMS said it happened in the 12500 block of Old Kimbro Road. EMS was called out to the scene around 6:41 p.m.  DPS said Tameka Ross, 40, was heading northbound in a 1999 Dodge 1500. For unknown reasons, the truck went off the right side of the roadway and crashed through a wooden fence and a metal chain-link fence before stopping.  The area of the accident is south of U.S. 290 in between Manor and Elgin.

October 13A driver accused in a hit and run crash that killed a pedestrian this week is now facing charges, according to DPS.  The crash happened Tuesday at about 7:44 p.m. near the 14000 block of FM 812 Road, according to DPS. Troopers and Austin-Travis County EMS responded to the area just outside the Circuit of the Americas.   DPS said a 1994 Toyota Tacoma, driven by 63-year-old Francisco Aviles of Niederwald, was heading eastbound on the right shoulder, when it hit Stephanie Lunt, 41, of Del Valle. According to DPS, Aviles allegedly failed to stop and help Lunt and ended up fleeing. Lunt was pronounced dead on scene.   Aviles was found the next day, DPS said, and is now charged with failure to stop and render aid resulting in death.

October 10 The Buda Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a 67-year-old woman Saturday.   Police say Viola Garcez was hit in the middle of a crosswalk outside a grocery store at 15300 Interstate 35 in Buda, and the driver of the grey Chevrolet Silverado that hit her fled the scene following the collision.   Police eventually caught up with the man, later identified as 58-year-old Jeffrey Conzemius, and charged him with an accident involving death.

October 4 One person has died in a single-vehicle crash in South Austin, EMS officials said Sunday.  Austin-Travis County EMS and Austin Fire Department responded to a reported vehicle rescue between the 12300 and 12600 blocks of South Interstate 35, near Buda.

October 4 DPS said one teenage died in a crash off FM 2244 Road on October 4.  It happened around 5:20 p.m. on Sunday. Texas DPS said a 1998 Honda Accord was heading eastbound on RM 2244, when it lost control and went into the westbound lane.  DPS said the Honda hit three cars before coming to a stop in a grassy ditch on the west side of the road. The 16-year-old boy driving the Honda was pronounced dead on scene, according to troopers.  It happened in between River Hills Road and Barton Creek Boulevard along FM 2244.

September 27, 2020 – Williamson County A crash Sunday night on Interstate 35 in Williamson County killed a person and sent a sheriff’s deputy to the hospital.  DPS says Jones Okey, 78, died at the scene of the crash after his 1995 Buick Regal was hit by an off-duty deputy in a marked Williamson County Sheriff’s Office patrol car.  The Buick was traveling on the left shoulder, DPS says, and the patrol car was in the left travel lane when the Buick veered over in front of the patrol car. The patrol car then rear-ended the Buick, and the Buick slid off the right side of the road into the grassy median, DPS says.  DPS says the crash occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. near exit 274. The deputy was taken to St. David’s Hospital in Georgetown for observation, DPS says.

September 20, 2020 – Williamson County The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified a 68-year-old man killed in a crash in Williamson County .  DPS identified him as Mark Levin, of Georgetown. The crash happened on Sept. 20.  The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office initially reported the crash happened on FM 971 at North Town Mills Road in Weir. The sheriff’s office said the accident involved two cars.

September 9 Charges are pending against a 21-year-old Hutto man suspected in a hit-and-run that killed two people, including a Burnet High School student, on a motorcycle early Wednesday, Leander police said.  Police responded at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday to reports of the collision at the intersection of U.S. 183 and the 183A tollway at Bryson Ridge Trail. Officers found the two motorcycle riders dead at the scene, police said.   Witnesses said the two people who died were riding together on a motorcycle north on U.S. 183 when the driver of a car heading south on the 183A tollway ran a red light and collided with the motorcycle in the intersection, according to police.   After the collision, the driver, identified by police as Allan Justin Gaytan, entered the OT convenience store near the intersection before fleeing into a wooded area nearby, police said.

September 6 San Marcos police have identified a man who died in a crash on Sunday as David Hollinbeck, 61, of San Antonio.  Authorities said Kyle Nissen of San Marcos crossed onto the wrong side of the road around 1 p.m. in a silver Ford F-250 truck on Wonder World Drive, near the Purgatory Creek bridge. He collided into four vehicles — including Hollinbeck’s white Ford F-150 truck — head-on after hitting a gray Nissan Rogue.  Hollinbeck was killed, but his wife, who was a passenger, was taken to Seton Medical Center Hays and released on Sunday, police said.  After hitting the Nissan Rogue and crossing over to the wrong side of the road, Nissen’s truck then hit a black Chevrolet Silverado, a gray Mazda CX9, a white Nissan Altima, and Hollinbeck’s truck, police said.  Authorities said they think alcohol was a factor in the crash, and police are awaiting Nissen’s toxicology test. Hollinbeck’s death was the 13th traffic fatality in San Marcos this year, officials said.  30-year-old Kyle Nissen was involved in a multi-vehicle crash, police said his Blood Alcohol Content was more than three times the legal limit.  He turned himself in Monday to the Hays County Jail and bonded out on $22,500, police said. Nissen is charged with intoxication manslaughter with vehicle, a second degree felony, intoxication assault with vehicle causing serious bodily injury, a third degree felony, and unlawful carrying of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

September 3 At least one person is dead after a fatal crash along Texas 21 near Paige on Thursday afternoon, according to the Bastrop County Emergency Services.  The crash occurred at the intersection of the highway and Quarter Horse Loop in front of a Dollar General store, about five miles southwest of Paige.  The intersection of Quarter Horse Loop and Texas 21 is the same location where four teenagers were killed in a crash in March 2019. State troopers said a car was turning from Texas 21 onto Quarter Horse Loop when it was struck by a 2004 Ford F-150.

September 1 A man who was taken into custody by deputies after a crash near Elgin died Tuesday afternoon after having difficulty breathing, according to the Bastrop County sheriff’s office.   Authorities received reports around 10:30 a.m. of a vehicle that had veered off U.S. 290 and crashed into a fence while traveling eastbound from Elgin, police said.  Deputies said they discovered that the man was driving a vehicle that had been stolen in Austin on Monday, and when they located him near the crashed vehicle he became combative.  Officials said two deputies were injured while trying to detain him, adding that the man was brought into custody after deputies deployed stun guns on him.   Medics arrived at the scene to treat the two deputies and the man, who was suffering from injuries related to the crash.  He was pronounced dead at 12:49 p.m. at the Heart Hospital of Austin, officials said.   The sheriff’s office has not released the name of the man, but said that he is a convicted felon and a registered sex offender.

August 30, 2020 – Williamson County The Williamson County sheriff’s office announced that 42-year-old Julio Tapia Arellano is accused of hitting a pedestrian on Aug. 30 at the intersection of Ronald Reagan Boulevard and CR 239.   DPS was on the scene of a fatal hit-and-run that happened Sunday morning involving a bicyclist.  The incident happened at Ronald Reagan Boulevard and County Road 239. The roadway remains closed and motorists are urged to seek alternate routes.  According to DPS, a man driving south on Ronald Reagan Boulevard struck and killed another man riding a bicycle around 9 a.m. The driver fled the scene on foot.  The suspect was not located during initial search, however is believed to have been positively identified by investigators.

August 21Austin-Travis County EMS officials on Friday said three people died in a crash involving two cars in Southeast Austin.  The crash, which occurred at 7221 N. FM 973, near Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park, around 7:50 p.m., according to Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS).  Officials later said two more people who were involved in the crash also had died.  Authorities said the crash involved a Nissan Altima and a GMC Yukon. A man in the Altima died in the crash, while two people in the Yukon were killed.

August 20The Kyle Police Department has arrested a man accused of attempting to leave the scene of a fatal crash on Interstate 35 near the 217-mile marker on Thursday at 4:51 a.m.  Arrested was the driver of an 18-wheeler, Jose Luis Juarez of Laredo, Texas, who reportedly struck a box truck and tow truck parked on the right shoulder of I-35.   Officials reported both drivers were outside of their vehicles when the crash occurred.  The box truck driver was injured and the tow truck driver, 22-year-old Tristen Cother, was killed on impact.

August 15 One person is dead and another has been declared a trauma alert after a one-vehicle collision in eastern Travis County on Saturday night.  Austin-Travis County EMS said medics were on the scene of a vehicle rescue at the 7900 block of FM 969 Road around 10:45 p.m.  ATCEMS said one person was briefly pinned in their vehicle but has been extricated. CPR was in performed.  One person was declared dead on the scene, while a second person taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with potentially serious, not expected to be life-threatening injuries.

August 3A bicyclist was killed in a crash early Monday near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Austin-Travis County EMS medics said.  Medics responded at 5:50 a.m. to the westbound lanes of the 1500 block of Texas 71, just east of U.S. 183, for the crash, which involved a vehicle and a bicycle.  An adult was pronounced dead at the scene, medics said.

July 27One person has died after a crash in Jarrell on Monday, according to the Williamson County sheriff’s office.  Law enforcement officials tweeted around 4:51 p.m. Monday that officers were called out to respond to a major crash and a vehicle fire at the 12200 block of Interstate 35 in Jarrell, Texas, located about 29 miles north of Round Rock.  Officials confirmed through Twitter around 5:18 p.m. that one person had died.

July 22One person is dead and three others are being taken to the hospital after a car crash 5200 North RM 620 near Lake Travis, Austin-Travis County EMS said Wednesday night.  ATCEMS said multiple people were transported to a medical facility.  Around 8:51 p.m., officials said that the three people had been taken to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center with serious or potentially serious injuries and another to Baylor Scott and White hospital in Lakeway.

Promising young boxer Travell “Black Magic” Mazion was killed when his car slammed head-on into an oncoming car on a highway near Austin, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday when a car Mazion, 24, was driving veered crossed the median on Farm-to-Market Road 1431 near the Austin suburb of Cedar Park, according to a DPS statement. Mazion’s car slammed head-on into a car driven by Richard Salter.

Twas killed instantly, while Salter, 61, of the Austin suburb of Lago Vista, died later at a hospital in nearby Round Rock.

July 15 Austin-Travis County EMS said two of the three people who were involved in a crash near Cedar Park on Wednesday night have died.  Promising young boxer Travell “Black Magic” Mazion was killed when his car slammed head-on into an oncoming car.  The crash happened about 9:40 p.m. when a car Mazion, 24, was driving veered crossed the median on FM 1431 and slammed head-on into a car driven by Richard Salter , 61, of Lago Vista who died later at a hospital in nearby Round Rock.

July 12 A motorcyclist was killed over the weekend after speeding and colliding with a vehicle in San Marcos, authorities said.  San Marcos police responded around 4:47 p.m. on Sunday to the 1600 block of Post Road, where a black 2004 Suzuki motorcycle collided with a red 2010 Volvo S40.  The area is west of Interstate 35 and just north of Bobcat Drive.  The motorcyclist was going south on Post Road when the Volvo pulled out from a parking lot at Mosscliff Apartments to drive north, police said.   The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and was identified as 23-year-old Kolin Walker, police said.

July 8A jogger was hit and killed by a vehicle in western Travis County early Wednesday, Austin-Travis County EMS medics said.  Medics responded to the intersection of Bee Cave Parkway and RM 620 around 5:56 a.m. The area is north of Texas 71 near Hill Country Galleria.  The pedestrian, a man believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene by Lake Travis Fire Rescue officials, medics said.

June 23DPS is investigating a crash after one adult died on FM 1327 in southeast Travis County early Tuesday morning.  5 others were injured.  The crash happened just before 2:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of FM 1827. That is near the intersection with Carl Road.

June 20 Two people are dead after a collision south of Killeen on Saturday afternoon, according to Killeen police.  Amanda Williams, 40, and Katie Marie Burch, 15, were both pronounced dead Saturday at 4:40 p.m. after their Toyota minivan was struck at an intersection, police said.  Williams was driving the Toyota and had stopped at a stop sign before she attempted to take a left turn onto Texas 195 from FM 2484 just south of Killeen. Police said the Toyota failed to yield right-of-way when it turned onto the highway and was struck by a Dodge pickup truck.

June 19 One person died in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 Friday morning near County Road 146 in Georgetown, the Texas Department of Public Safety says.  The crash occurred at 5:34 a.m.

June 17A woman involved in a crash between an 18-wheeler and a car died Wednesday morning in Manor, according to Manor police.  The woman, who was driving the car, collided with an 18-wheeler that was hauling gravel on U.S. Highway 290 near the Old Kimbro Road intersection Wednesday, police say.   One lane of Eastbound U.S. 290 is closed and the turn lanes that crossover at Old Kimbro Road are also closed. June 16Two high school students in the Blanco Independent School District were killed in a crash Monday, the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed Wednesday.  Troopers responded to the crash at 8:49 p.m., almost five miles south of Blanco on U.S. Highway 281, they said. A 2013 Chevrolet Sonic was going northbound on the highway, moved off the right side of the road and hit an embankment.   The car rolled several times, and the two teenage girls inside were ejected.  The 16-year-old driver and 14-year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, Texas DPS said.

June 14The driver of a pickup truck was hit and killed by a train in San Marcos Sunday morning, San Marcos police said.  Police responded to the McCarty Lane railroad track at around 9:05 a.m. A red 2006 Toyota Tundra pickup truck was hit by a train on the tracks on East McCarty Lane, police said. The area is west of Interstate 35 near Hunter Road in San Marcos.  Witnesses reported that the train crossing arms were down when the truck went through the railroad crossing.  The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 80-year-old Joe Antonio Quintero Sr., police said.

June 10 identified a woman killed in a deadly crash on State Highway 71 Tuesday in Burnet County.  DPS troopers responded to the scene of the crash at 12:02 p.m. The said a 2014 Ford Fusion was stopped on County Road 403 facing southbound. At the same time, a 2017 Dodge pickup was heading west on SH 71.DPS said the Ford failed to yield the right of way as it entered the intersection of CR 403 and SH 71, resulting in the truck crashing into the car. The driver of the Ford Fusion, Loretta McClinton, 46, was declared dead at the scene.

June 10A pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle on Texas 71 in western Travis County Wednesday morning, the Travis County sheriff’s office saidAustin-Travis County EMS medics, Pedernales fire officials and the sheriff’s office responded to the 23000 block of Texas 71 at 6:10 a.m. after receiving a report that a person was hit by a vehicle.   The area is just south of the Pedernales River outside Briarcliff.   The westbound lanes of Texas 71 are closed in the 23400 block of the highway at the river and traffic is being diverted onto Pace Bend Road, the sheriff’s office said.

June 9One person is dead and another was seriously injured Thursday following a crash on Texas 71 in western Travis County, Austin-Travis County EMS said.  Medics responded to an area between the 20800 and 21099 blocks of Texas 71 at about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday. One patient was trapped and another received CPR at the scene. Medics and Pedernales firefighters worked to free the trapped patient, EMS said.  A medical helicopter flew one of the adults to a local hospital. The other was pronounced dead at the scene.

June 9San Marcos police have identified a man killed in a deadly crash on Interstate Highway 35 Tuesday night.  Authorities were called to the scene of the crash on I-35 near the River Ridge Parkway exit at 10:37 p.m.  Police say the driver of a Dodge pickup truck changed lanes to avoid another vehicle causing it to crash into the back of semi-trailer.  The driver of the pickup was identified as Breene Galen Greer, 70.

June 3deadly collision between a semi-truck and passenger vehicle on Farm to Market Road 1625 in southeast Travis County early Wednesday morning.   DPS said they were notified of the crash at 2:48 a.m. The department said a 2016 Ford Fusion was heading south on U.S. 183 approaching a red light at the intersection at Farm to Market Road 1625. At that same time a 2019 Freightliner truck towing two Great Dane trailers was turning left from FM 1625 onto U.S. 183. DPS says the Ford disregarded the light and crashed into the side of the trailer being towed. The driver of the Ford, identified as Sheldon Reinstein, 29, was declared dead at the scene.

June 2 – Leander police identified the man killed in a rollover crash at the intersection of Highway 29 and Ronald W. Reagan Boulevard.  Police said that on June 2, around 8:43 a.m. a call came in of a crash between an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck.  The driver of the pickup, Curtis Townsend, 39, was declared dead at the scene. Police say Townsend was traveling east on Highway 29 while the semi was heading north on Ronald Reagan Boulevard. Witnesses say the driver of the semi ran a red light crashing into the pickup.

June 1 — San Marcos police are working to identify a driver who drove away after fatally crashing into a pedestrian late Monday.  Police responded to the 1600 block of Post Road about 10 p.m. Monday, according to a statement from authorities. Dwight Garrett Thomas, 41, was walking with another man on the edge of a sidewalk or in a bicycle lane when he was struck by a vehicle, police said.  Thomas was taken to Ascension Seton Hays Hospital in Kyle, where he died overnight, the statement said.  Investigators said that based on evidence left at the scene, the vehicle is likely a maroon 2002 to 2005 Ford Explorer. The vehicle will be missing the right, front turn signal housing and possibly has the headlight broken.

June 1 — A man died after a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler in Taylor, police said Monday.  Police responded to the scene in the 300 block of Carlos Parker Boulevard SW at 5:45 a.m. for the collision. Police say Dillon Patrick Coy, 24, of Bremond, Texas, was driving westbound in a 2001 Honda when he veered off the road hit a reflector pole, then overcorrected and went into oncoming traffic. He then hit an 18-wheeler and was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

May 30Two children were pronounced dead at the scene of a crash in the 3800 block of State Highway 71 near the 130 toll road in eastern Travis County late Friday night.   According to Austin-Travis County EMS, there were six patients involved in the crash: two children, two adults who were taken to the hospital and two patients who refused treatment.  The two adults who were transported were declared trauma alerts and had potentially serious, life-threatening serious injuries.

May 29 A man was killed during a single-vehicle crash in Round Rock last Friday, May 29, according to the Round Rock Police Department 34-year-old Jonathan Henville was killed in the crash at A.W. Grimes Boulevard around 7:20 p.m. Friday, RRPD reports.  Police say Henville was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:40 p.m. Nobody else was in the car with him.

May 29 A 7-year-old is now the third to die after a single-car crash Saturday on IH 35 in San Marcos.   The child, one of three children taken to Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin following the crash, was pronounced dead Tuesday.   The family of 10 from San Antonio, five adults and five children, was traveling to Austin for a family gathering when the 2002 Ford Explorer they were in rolled in the 200 block of I-35 northbound, leaving the freeway and flipping multiple times. Nine of the 10 people in the vehicle were ejected, and police say the driver was the only person wearing a seatbelt.  Two other people died in the crash, 23-year-old Destiny Bridges and 31-year-old Sean Thompson.  Police say the Ford Explorer was only suited for five passengers. The investigation is ongoing, but police say speed and a blown tire are expected to be factors in the crash.

May 20 The Texas DPS has released the identity of the man who was killed during a crash on Parmer Lane on May 20.  According to DPS, 45-year-old Patrick Obumnene, of Pflugerville, was stopped in the right lane of Parmer Lane due to a flat tire at around 4:42 p.m. DPS says that a 2017 Nissan NV200 was traveling west on Parmer Lane in the same lane.  At this time, DPS says, the driver attempted to swerve left to avoid a collision with Obumnene’s Lexus and and hit him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

May 19

May 17Police have identified three people who died on Texas 71 in Bastrop County last week.   The crashes occurred along the highway in the Cedar Creek area.  Eulisses Martinez Zavala, 20, of Bastrop; Ramero Arenas Aguilar, 60, of Austin; and Miguel Diaz, 45, of Austin, were killed in a crash on May 17.  At 11:40 p.m., Zavala was driving a 2001 Honda westbound on Texas 71 in the eastbound lanes when he struck a 2010 Toyota Corolla head-on near the Blue Flame Road intersection. Zavala was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two other occupants of the Honda were taken by helicopter to a hospital with serious injuries.

May 16 — The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said two teens were killed in an ATV crash in Taylor on Saturday.  A sheriff’s office spokeswoman said of the three teens involved, two of them died. They were 14 and 15-years-old. The other juvenile who was involved sustained minor injuries. Deputies responded to the crash around 4:30 p.m. at County Road 482.

May 12The Hays County Sheriff’s Office is reporting to the scene of a fatal crash on Highway 290 near Henley Loop on Tuesday afternoon.  HCSO says that multiple vehicles were involved in the crash. The call came in 1:20 p.m.

May 2One woman died and a second is in the hospital with potentially serious injuries after a rollover crash that occurred around 1:45 a.m. on Spicewood Springs Road near St. Edwards Park. That’s northwest of Loop 360.  Fire crews say the driver hit a tree and ended up on the opposite side of the road. Both women were thrown from the car, and the passenger died at the scene.   Died at the scene and identified by the DPS was Mary Casey, 29, from Round Rock, was the passenger in a 2015 Honda Fit that left the road on Spicewood Springs Road and crashed into a tree.

April 29 One person is dead after getting hit by a train in northwest Austin. Austin-Travis County EMS says the incident happened in the 3700 block of West Howard Lane at around 2:45 this morning.

April 26One person was killed and another was injured late Sunday after a crash in southeastern Travis County, ATCEMS  said.  Medics responded at 10:29 p.m. to a crash involving multiple vehicles at the intersection of U.S. 183 South and McKenzie Road, south of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. 

April 20One person was killed, and another was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Southeast Austin, according to officials.  The deadly crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. April 20, in the 3800 block of Todd Lane, west of the intersection of Burleson Road and East Ben White Boulevard.  Officials said the crash involved a commercial truck and a pickup truck.  A man was declared dead at the scene. His name has not been released.  Another person was taken to South Austin Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries.

April 17A 49-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler. The crash happened Friday, April 18 on Highway 130. The deceased woman has been identified as Maria Work of Bastrop, TX.  At around 1:00 p.m. DPS reports that Maria Work died when she drove her 2007 Pontiac G6 into oncoming traffic. The crash happened on State Highway 130 between Austin and Bastrop near Harold Green Road. Work was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. It is not known what caused her to veer into oncoming traffic. An investigation about the crash is still ongoing.

April deputy who was burned while rescuing a passenger from the burning van.

April The Travis County Sheriff’s Office have identified identified as Enrique Hernandez, 20, from Austin as the person killed in a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash on Decker Lane April 13.  Workers had discovered the body in a ditch.  The victim was hit by a vehicle on Farm to Market Road 3177 in Travis County.   Officials said an unknown vehicle was driving down the road when it hit the man.  The man then fell off the roadway into a ditch. The car left the scene.

April The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said a woman died in a crash off U.S. Highway 183 in the northern part of the county on Saturday afternoon.  A sheriff’s office spokeswoman said the crash in the 1800 block of County Road 221 in Florence happened around 2 p.m.  The woman was 34-years-old, a spokeswoman said.

March 29A driver was killed and another was injured in a collision on FM 973 in Southeast Austin early Sunday.  Austin-Travis County EMS medics responded at 5:09 a.m. to the two-vehicle wreck at FM 973 and Pearce Lane.  A 45-year-old man was pronounced dead on scene. The second driver was taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with potentially serious injuries.

March 24The northbound lanes of Interstate 35 just north of Georgetown near County Road 144 were closed after one person was killed in a crash early Tuesday, the Williamson County sheriff’s office said.  Officials reported the crash at 5:05 a.m.

Christopher Korzilius Obituary - Austin, TXMarch 18A Travis County sheriff’s deputy was killed in a collision on RM 2244 early Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said.  Senior Deputy Christopher Korzilius was driving an unmarked sheriff’s office vehicle, a Ford Escape, when his vehicle collided with another and rolled off the road.  EMS medics responded around 6:50 a.m. to the 7700 block of RM 2244, which is near One World Theatre, west of Capital of Texas Highway (Loop 360) near Weston Lane.  Korzilius’ vehicle rolled over onto its roof, and he was pinned inside, medics said. The senior deputy was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.  Another adult was taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.  Korzilius joined the sheriff’s office in June 2016 and was promoted two years later to senior deputy. He joined the VICE unit this past January and worked primarily at night in eastern Travis County.  The senior deputy was recently awarded the Commendation Bar after responding to a shooting in July 2018, the sheriff’s office said.  Korzilius is the eighth Travis County deputy to be killed in the line of duty.   The investigation into the crash is still ongoing but state troopers might file charges against the driver who hit Korzilius, the report says. The American-Statesman is not publishing the driver’s name because charges have not been filed.  The 42-year-old driver was driving west in the right lane of Bee Cave Road when he “failed to control” his speed in a curve and veered into oncoming traffic before crashing into Korzilius, according to the crash report.

March 13 Police have identified two people killed in a crash on Texas 95 near Elgin on March 13 as Christine Renee Jones, 46, and Hilton Knox Jr., 73.  Jones was driving southbound on Texas 95 when a tractor-trailer turned in front of her on the highway, DPS. Jones took evasive action to avoid hitting the trailer and drove onto a northbound lane of the highway before over-correcting in an attempt to get back on the southbound lane. When Jones cross the northbound lane of the highway, she struck the vehicle Knox was driving head-on. The crash happened on Texas 95 about 1 mile south of Elgin. Weather conditions were clear and dry.

One man died over the weekend after being hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross Texas 304 in Bastrop County, said DPS.  Sergio Mayo, 37, of Bastrop, was attempting to cross the highway about 1 mile south of Bastrop around 6:37 p.m. Saturday when a 1995 Saturn traveling northbound struck him. State police said that Mayo “failed to yield right of way” to the car when he was crossing the street.   Mayo’s death is the third traffic fatality recorded so far this year in the county, according to state data. The first occurred in January along U.S. 290, just east of Elgin.

The eastbound lanes of the 1600 block of U.S. 290 in McDade are shut down after a fatal crash in the area, the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management said Thursday morning. One westbound lane of the highway between Old Highway 20 and McAcres Drive is closed, officials said.    According to Texas DPS, Anitra Tusie, 45, was traveling westbound in her 2015 Ford vehicle when it crossed into the eastbound lane and hit a 2019 Toyota Tacoma.   She was from Dime Box, Texas near Giddings.

A person was killed in a crash in East Austin on Monday morning, Austin-Travis County EMS medics said.  Medics responded to the 3400 block of Andtree Boulevard, off Springdale Road near the U.S. 290 East and U.S. 183 interchange, at 9:16 a.m.

One person is dead following a rollover crash in southeast Travis County early Monday morning.  It happened on South Hwy 183 near McKenzie Rd/Shively Ln.  Austin-Travis County EMS says the call came for someone laying in the middle of the road.   Medics found a person who had been ejected from a vehicle. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

February 1, 2020 – Williamson County – Three people were killed in a Williamson County crash over the weekend.   DPS reports a Ford Mustang with three people inside was traveling southbound on SH 195 when it left the roadway, crossed over a grassy median and into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons Saturday. The Mustang hit a Hyundai Elantra traveling northbound on the highway.  As a result of the crash, the driver of the Hyundai, 45-year-old Monchai Chatsuwan, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mustang, 21-year-old Anthony Nevelle Peaks Jr., and a passenger in the back seat, 19-year-old Eric Christopher Hogan, were also pronounced dead on scene, DPS reports.  An 18-year-old man riding in the Ford was taken to Seton Medical Center to be treated for injuries.  The crash happened one mile west of Georgetown on State Highway 195 and Bonnet Lane around 7 p.m. Saturday.

February 1, 2020 – Round Rock – One person is dead after a wreck in northeast Round Rock, according to authorities. Round Rock police said the incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of East Palm Valley Boulevard and North Georgetown Street.

January 26, 2020 – Pflugerville — A woman died after being struck by a vehicle in Pflugerville late Sunday night.  It happened in the 2100 block of Picadilly Drive, just east of I-35, around 10:17 p.m. Upon arrival, officers attempted CPR on the woman, identified as 42-year-old Cynthia Portillo Cisneros.  She was transported to Round Rock Medical Center, where she died a short time later.   The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.  This is Pflugerville’s first traffic fatality of 2020.

January 23, 2020 — Travis County —  — One man died after a wreck Thursday morning involving two vehicles in southeast Travis County.  DPS said at about 8:30 am a pickup going south in the 9000 block of Thaxton Road, which is near Sassman Road and crossed the center line and struck another vehicle traveling northbound. A third vehicle avoided the crash by driving off the road and into a field.   Medics performed CPR on one man involved in the crash, but he died at the scene. Another man in his 50s was taken by STARFlight to Dell Seton Medical Center with serious injuries.

January 19, 2020 — Travis County —  A crash that killed two people on Hwy 71 on Sunday morning was caused by another driver traveling at speeds over 100 MPH because he was late for a flight, according to an affidavit.  The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. in the 5000 block of E SH 71 WB.  The affidavit states that 21-year-old Joseph Diaz was driving a 2019 Audi westbound on Hwy 71 at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic.  The Texas Department of Public Safety says a 2005 Acura being driven by 49-year-old Jose Luis Vasquez and his passenger, 45-year-old Joann Menchaca, was crossing over the westbound lanes of 71 when they were struck by Diaz’s Audi.  DPS says the crash killed Menchaca, and Vasquez–who wasn’t wearing a seat belt–died after being ejected from the vehicle.  Nearby surveillance video captured the crash and showed the high rate of speed the Audi was traveling.  Diaz was interviewed at the hospital, saying he wasn’t familiar with the car as it was a rental, and was late for his 10:05 flight out of Austin.  Diaz is charged with manslaughter, a second degree felony.

January 15, 2020 – Round Rock —  One man is dead after a collision that occurred in Round Rock on Wednesday morning.  According to police, two cars collided at East Old Settlers Blvd. and West Mesa Park Drive in Round Rock just before 9 a.m.   One male was pronounced dead on the scene. Another person involved in the crash was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

January 10, 2020 — Travis County — A man is dead after being ejected from his car in a deadly crash in Dripping Springs, according to Austin-Travis County EMS. ATCEMS says the rollover crash happened at 21725 Hamilton Pool Road near Grand Summit Boulevard at 3:16 p.m. The Travis County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the driver crashed into a tree as well.  The man, Brandon Edmonson, was driving a 2018 Toyota Tundra on Hamilton Pool Road. Authorities say the vehicle exited the road traveling eastbound, went through a dry creek bed, and collided with trees.

January 8, 2020 — Williamson County — DPS confirmed Friday morning the woman who died in a Wednesday night crash in far northwest Austin was not wearing her seat belt.  According to DPS, Xiayou Nye, 59, was the passenger in a 2017 Toyota Corolla being driven by Hongkai Zhaing, 33.   DPS says Zhaing was driving north on Parmer Lane when he lost control and hit a pole Wednesday night at 9:45 p.m.  Paramedics pronounced Nye dead at the scene of the crash. They took Zhang to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  A DPS spokesperson said they weren’t sure if Zhaing and Nye were related.

January 4, 2020 — Cedar Park — A motorcycle rider has died following a crash on a toll road near Leander on Saturday. Cedar Park Police said Dane Hone, 45, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries following the crash in the 6400 block of the 183A toll road at about 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 4. He died early on Sunday morning, police said.  When officers responded to the incident, they found a pickup truck in the median and the motorcycle in the road. Based on police’s initial investigation, it is believed the truck crashed into the median first, sending pieces of debris into the roadway. Moments later, the motorcyclist hit the debris and crashed, it is thought.

January 2, 2020 — San Marcos — Two people died after a rollover crash on State Highway 123 in Hays County Thursday night, San Marcos police say.  SMPD says officers found a single vehicle rolled over in the 1000 block of SH 123 northbound around 11:58 p.m. Two people, who were not wearing seatbelts, had been ejected from the purple 1998 Honda Accord.  Police say the car was traveling north when it veered right, hit a driveway culvert and rolled. Driver Daniel F. Aguilar, 52, died at the scene. Passenger Raymond D. Silguero, 55, was taken to a hospital in Kyle where they later died.
