The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified Egypt Catai West as the deceased in this crash. On December 29, 2021, APD responded to a three-vehicle crash in the 5900 block of FM 2222. The preliminary investigation shows that Ford F150 struck a solid waste collection truck in the inside lane of FM 2222. The contact caused the refuse truck to drive over a small concrete divider and into southbound traffic where it struck a Ford Escape, causing both vehicles to drive off the roadway. The drivers of the Ford F150 and collections truck were transported to the hospital and treated for non-life-threating injuries. The driver of the Ford Escape, Egypt West, was pronounced deceased on scene at 8:04 a.m. by Dr. Escott.
This is Austin’s 111th fatal traffic crash of 2021, resulting in 120 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2020, there were 87 fatal crashes resulting in 93 fatalities.

The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified Uriel Veloz as the deceased in this crash. On December 23, 2021, at about 10:42 p.m., APD responded to an auto/pedestrian crash in the 13500 block of N. IH 35. The driver of the vehicle left the scene heading northbound on IH 35. It is believed the vehicle that left the scene is a 2013-2015 Nissan Pathfinder which would have significant damage to the front and undercarriage of the vehicle including the radiator.

The driver of the vehicle left the scene heading northbound on IH 35. The unidentified pedestrian was transported to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The vehicle that left the scene is believed to be a 2019-2022 dark gray Nissan Altima which will have significant damage to the front and undercarriage of the vehicle.

On December 12, 2021, at approximately 9:11 p.m., officers with the Austin Police Department responded to the 6300 block of E. US 290 Hwy eastbound for a crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian. The initial investigation shows the driver of the Hyundai was traveling on US Hwy 290, and struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway. The driver remained at the scene. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. On December 16, 2021, at 6:03 p.m., the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced deceased.

On December 10, 2021, at approximately 9:30 a.m., APD officers responded to the vicinity of the 4900 block of South IH35 NB SVRD. The initial investigation shows a Black Porsche was traveling northbound. The vehicle entered the grassy median where construction workers were actively working. The two pedestrians were pronounced deceased on scene at 9:38 a.m. The investigation is still ongoing to determine if any charges will be filed.

The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified Benino Robledo as the person killed in the crash on November 24. On November 24, 2021, at approximately 2:38 p.m., APD patrol officers responded to a crash in the 1700 block of Rutland Dr. Five vehicles were involved in the crash, and three individuals involved were transported to the hospital with injuries. On December 4, 2021, Benino succumbed to injuries sustained from the crash. This is an ongoing investigation.

The preliminary investigation shows a Ford F150 was heading southbound in the 2700 block of S. Mopac Expressway SB as the pedestrian was crossing westbound. The vehicle struck the pedestrian, Sterling Turner-Williams. The driver remained on scene and was cooperative. Turner-Williams was transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased on November 24, 2021 at 12:40 a.m.

On November 20, 2021, at approximately 11:44 p.m., APD responded to a crash in the 12300 block of N IH 35 SB. Preliminary information shows a Honda crashed on the southbound side of N IH 35. The occupants of the Honda exited their vehicle after the crash. One of the occupants of the Honda, John Herrera Boanerge, was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling southbound on N IH 35. The unknown vehicle left the scene after striking him. The other occupant of the Honda also left the scene prior to police arrival.

The preliminary investigation shows John Delgado was traveling northbound in a gray Audi in the southbound lane of traffic when he struck a green Chevrolet head-on. Mr. Delgado was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger of the gray Audi was transported with non-life threatening injuries, and the driver of the green Chevrolet was transported with serious, non-life threatening injuries.

The blue Kia and the motorcycle collided in the intersection. Mr. Perez was pronounced deceased on scene at 7:51 p.m. The driver of the blue Kia remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

A 2012 freight semi-truck pulling a 2022 tractor trailer was traveling southbound and struck the back of the stopped GMC. Both occupants in the GMC were pronounced deceased on scene at 9:18 p.m. The driver of the freight semi-truck and tractor trailer remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The initial investigation shows that a 2005 white Toyota 4Runner was traveling westbound in the 700 block of E. Ben White. A pedestrian was crossing Ben White, mid-block and was struck by the 4Runner. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the 4Runner left the scene and was later located and arrested for failure to stop and render aid.

On October 4, 2021, at approximately 8:44 p.m., APD officers responded to the U.S. 183 Flyover to SH 45 Eastbound for a crash. The initial investigation shows that a 2004 Honda CRV was traveling southbound on the U.S. 183 Flyover when the driver, Aaliyah Martinez, lost control and struck the concrete wall. After striking the wall, the CRV rolled over the concrete wall and fell to the roadway below. Ms. Martinez was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased at 12:40 a.m. on October 5, 2021.

The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified Travis Douglass and Audrey Petty as the decedents in the September 23 fatality crash on Medical Parkway. At approximately 1:30 a.m., officers responded to the 4100 block of Medical Parkway in reference to a single vehicle collision into a building. The driver, Tristen Reyna, was traveling southbound on Medical Parkway when he left the roadway and struck a building. Travis Douglass and Audrey Petty were pronounced deceased at the scene. Tristen Reyna was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter.

Congress Ave. At approximately 8:16 p.m. APD was notified of a collision that occurred in the 5100 Block of S. Congress Ave. The preliminary investigation shows that an unidentified vehicle was traveling northbound on S. Congress Ave. when it struck Terryn Strahan who was walking southbound. The vehicle then left the scene without providing aid or calling 9-1-1. Ms. Strahan was transported to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on September 20 at 12:55 a.m.

The preliminary investigation shows the white Chevrolet was traveling northbound on Newfield Ln., and the driver of the scooter was riding southbound on a stand up power scooter in the same lane. The Chevrolet struck the scooter. The scooter driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, Lee Ann Lafaye Nash, was arrested for DWI on scene.

Lamar Blvd. A 2011 Acura was turning left from the center turn lane when the driver of a 2017 Honda motorcycle struck the left rear portion of the Acura with the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified the deceased in the August 31 fatality on Southwest Parkway as Daniel Devo Peeples. At approximately 6:23 p.m., APD officers responded to an area near the 4600 block of Southwest Parkway for a single-vehicle collision. A 2004 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Mr. Peeples, was traveling on Southwest Parkway when it left the roadway for an unknown reason and hit a group of trees. Mr. Peeples was taken to St. David’s South Austin Hospital where he passed away on September 8, 2021.

The initial investigation shows that a 2014 Hyundai Accent was traveling on Pearce Ln when Mary Arencibia was crossing the street. The Hyundai struck her in the roadway. She was transported to St. David’s South Austin Hospital where she later died on September 8, 2021.

Despite life saving measures Mr. Sloane was pronounced deceased on scene at 10:02 p.m.

Around 10:58 p.m., APD officers responded to an auto vs. pedestrian crash. The initial investigation shows that a 2016 Chevrolet Traverse struck Kimberly Allen who was in the roadway. Kimberly Allen was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where she was later pronounced deceased. The driver remained on scene and cooperated. No charges are expected at this time.

On August 30, at approximately 12:11 a.m., APD was notified of a collision that occurred in the vicinity of Giles Ln. and E. Braker Ln.. The preliminary investigation shows the green Chevrolet was traveling northbound on Giles Ln., veered off the roadway and collided with a concrete pillar. IH 35 when it struck a pedestrian who was running across the road. It is believed other vehicles also struck the pedestrian after he was initially struck by the Toyota. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene at 11:31 p.m. No charges are anticipated against any of the drivers involved this incident.

The Austin Police Department (APD) has made an arrest in the August 19 fatality crash on N. Lamar Blvd. and Ken St. Nineteen-year-old Moises Balderas-Martinez was arrested and charged with fail to stop and render aid. At approximately 11:36 p.m., the victim, identified as Jenny Gonzales-Zepeda was walking across the street at N. Lamar Blvd. and Ken St. to meet a friend. At the same time, a Nissan driven by Moises Balderas-Martinez struck Jenny. He continued to drive, leaving the scene of the collision. Jenny Gonzales-Zepeda was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officers later located Moises Balderas-Martinez and he was taken into custody.

At approximately 1:13 a.m., APD was notified of a collision that occurred in the intersection of Norwood Park Blvd. and North IH 35 Frontage Rd. A Maroon Chevrolet was traveling west bound on Norwood Park Blvd. The vehicle attempted to stop at the stop sign at the intersection, was unable to stop and struck the retaining wall at this location. Mr. Henderson, the passenger in the vehicle, was transported to Round Rock Medical Center. On August 19, 2021 at 3:12 p.m. Mr. Henderson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

A 2019 Black Honda CRV driven by Scott Taylor crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the Hyundai head on. The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced deceased at the scene. According to DPS, Taylor had a previous history of DWIs. He plead guilty to killing 20-year-old UT Dallas student in crash. Taylor was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified Kevin Nelson as the deceased in the August 14 fatality crash in the 9500 block of Circuit of the Americas Blvd. At approximately 5:13 a.m. a 2020 Dodge Ram truck was approaching a large, metal gate with two separate swing arms at the entrance of Circuit of the Americas. The entrance side gate was blocking the entrance and the exit side gate was partially open. The driver of the Dodge maneuvered between the two metal gate arms and the end of the exit gate swing arm entered the cab of the truck and struck Mr. Nelson who was a passenger in the truck. The driver of the truck was also struck. Mr. Nelson died at the scene and the passenger was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified the decedents in the July 11 crash in the 4400 block of E. Ben White Blvd. as Fabien Xavier Mireles, Raul Vargas Jr., and Juan Antonio Mireles-Perez. Officers responded to a crash where a Gray 2009 Chevy Silverado truck and a maroon 2009 four door Acura were traveling west bound when their vehicles made contact with each other. This caused the Silverado truck to go over the barrier coming to rest on its roof in a parking lot near the frontage road. All three occupants in the Silverado died at the scene. The passenger in the Acura was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The third passenger was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified Lateisha Washington as the victim in the May 17th fatality crash on Dessau Rd. At approximately 1:51 p.m., APD Officers responded to the 12000 block of Dessau Rd. for a multi-vehicle collision. The initial investigation shows that a 2001 Toyota Corolla crashed into several vehicles that were stopped at the red light at the intersection of Dessau Rd. and Parmer Ln. The driver and passenger of the Toyota were transported to a local hospital for injuries. The passenger of the Toyota, Lateisha Washington, was later pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries she sustained in the crash. The driver of the Toyota, Octavia Antoinette Scales, was later arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. The four other drivers and two passengers involved in the crash were uninjured, remained on scene and are all cooperating with the investigation.

The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified Russell Charles McKiernan as the victim in the May 16th traffic fatality on Payton Gin Rd.
At approximately 2:11 p.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Payton Gin Rd. for a two-vehicle collision between a 2005 Hyundai and a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu. Mr. McKiernan, the driver of a 2005 Hyundai was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas with what were believed to be minor injuries. He passed away on May 16, 2021at 11:04 p.m. The driver of the Chevrolet remained on scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. At this time, charges are not expected to be filed against the driver of the Chevrolet.

APD has identified 22-year-old Alexis Enrique Aguirre Torres as the decedent in a four-vehicle crash that occurred on April 24, 2021 in the 4900 block of N. IH-35 NB. The preliminary investigation shows that a white, 2021 Kia Forte collided with a green, 2009 Toyota Corolla, a silver, 2007 Acura TL and a red, 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix. The driver of the Kia and all four passengers inside were transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas with injuries. One of those passengers, Alexis Enrique Aguirre Torres, was pronounced deceased at 2:40 a.m. The initial reports stating the Kia was driving the wrong direction and that several individuals involved in the crash had been ejected were inaccurate.
The driver in the Toyota Corolla, Jessica Nicole Vasquez, was arrested on scene for DWI.

On April 21, around 2:45 a.m. Haley Frances Womak was a passenger in a pickup truck that collided with an 18-wheeler on the shoulder of I-35 northbound near 51st Street, police say. The 18-wheeler was pulled over on the side of the interstate. Womak was pronounced dead at the scene.

Around 2:44 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a two-vehicle crash on the southbound lanes of I-35 near Ballwood Park, according to authorities. Police said Alejandro Cosio-Resendez, 42, was driving a silver Mercury Grand Marquis when his car struck a gray Nissan SUV that was on the shoulder of the highway. Cosio-Resendez died at the scene, according to police, and the driver of the Nissan, who was not identified, was not injured.

There are no charges anticipated against the driver of the Camry.

The preliminary investigation shows that Eric Anthony Torres was driving a silver, 2007 Nissan Versa over the 290/Mopac flyover when he hit a retaining wall. Mr. Torres exited his vehicle to assess the damage when Victor Sverdlin attempted to drive around him in a grey, 2014 Toyota Avalon. The Avalon began sliding toward the Versa due to the icy conditions at which time Eric Torres was forced over the edge of the flyover and fell to the grassy hill below. Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but Eric Torres was ultimately pronounced deceased on scene. Victor Sverdlin was arrested for driving while intoxicated and booked into the Travis County Jail. His booking photo is being withheld pending lineups.

The Corvette sideswiped a silver, 2018 Ford Explorer that was in use as a ridesharing vehicle, before colliding with two telephone poles and a parked, unoccupied silver, 2021 Toyota Tundra. The Corvette came to a stop near W. 29th and Shoal Crest Avenue. The driver, and sole occupant, of the Chevrolet was transported by Austin-Travis County EMS to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he was pronounced deceased at 6:50 a.m. The driver and customer in the Ford were uninjured.

The bicyclist, Mark Coley Davis, was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he was pronounced deceased at 12:54 p.m. The driver of the Ford remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators. Driver impairment was not a factor in the crash.

The driver of the Infinity was pronounced deceased on scene. The truck driver was not injured.

The driver exited the vehicle and was lying underneath the car trying to repair it. A 2016 Kia Soul was traveling southbound in the outside lane, when it struck the driver’s side of the Nissan Quest. The driver of the Nissan Quest was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other injuries reported. The driver of the Kia Soul remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. There was not any indication of impairment.

On Saturday, January 30, 2021, at 2:25 a.m., Austin Police responded to the 7400 block of N. IH-35 northbound in reference to a crash. Upon arrival, officers discovered a multiple vehicle crash and located the victim in the roadway. The decedent has been identified as 26-year-old Denyse Jaimes-Olmos. The preliminary investigation shows that Ms. Jaimes-Olmos was traveling northbound on N. IH-35 in a 2011 GMC Terrain when she crashed into a barricade on the outside shoulder. After that initial impact Ms. Jaimes-Olmos’ GMC slid across all lanes of IH-35 finally stopping in the inside lane. A second vehicle then crashed into Ms. Jaimes-Olmos’ GMC from behind causing Ms. Jaimes-Olmos to fall into the roadway. A third vehicle struck Ms. Jaimes-Olmos. Ms. Jaimes-Olmos was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries. There were no injuries reported from the third vehicle.

On Wednesday, January 27, 2021, Austin Police responded to 4604 S. Lamar Blvd. in reference to a crash at 5:50 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located the driver of a White Toyota RAV 4, and a pedestrian who was being treated by Austin-Travis County EMS. A witness at the scene stated the driver of the vehicle was making a left turn out of a parking garage, when she struck the pedestrian. The driver was not aware that she struck anyone at the time of the crash. The victim, identified as 62-year old Susan Soheili, was transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with serious bodily injuries. On Friday, January 29, 2021, Ms. Soheili succumbed to her injuries, and was pronounced deceased at 12:15 p.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Lahrmann was riding eastbound in the middle lane of traffic when he was struck from behind by a black sedan that fled the scene.

The driver of the Marquis was transported by Austin-Travis County EMS to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center with serious injuries. He is currently in stable condition. Jasmine Symon Campos was pronounced deceased on scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that Khairullah Danish was driving eastbound on E. 38 ½ Street in a black, 2009 Toyota Carolla when he arrived at a traffic signal flashing red in all directions. He came to a complete stop and began proceeding through the intersection when he was struck by Christian Ramos. Ramos was driving a grey, 2013 Mazda CX-9 and failed to yield at the intersection. Upon arrival, Austin-Travis County EMS attempted life-saving measures, but Khairullah Danish succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. Officers conducted an investigation and determined that Christian Ramos was intoxicated. He was placed under arrest and is charged with intoxication manslaughter. His bond has been set at $100,000.

December 7, 2021 – Liberty Hill — There are growing traffic concerns in Liberty Hill off of Highway 29 after a series of car accidents have happened in the last month. On Dec. 7, 2021 @ 6:18 P.M., 11000 block SH 29: This head-on fatality crash may have been due to a medical emergency.
December 5, 2021 – Taylor — UPDATED — A man was convicted and sentenced for his role in a fatal crash that killed two people in Taylor in 2021, according to Williamson County court documents. Documents showed 29-year-old Dylan Wade Weise was convicted by a court July 24 after pleading guilty to criminal negligent homicide, which was a lesser offense. He was previously charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter related to the 2021 incident. Weise was sentenced to serve 12 months in state jail. Weise was accused of driving under the influence after two people were killed in a crash involving a car and motorcycle in Taylor on Sunday evening. The Taylor Police Department said Dylan Wade Weise, 27, of Taylor, was arrested and charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter, a second-degree felony. The crash happened just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of North State Highway 95 and Chandler Road. Police said they found Weise, who was driving a black 2015 Toyota car, failed to yield to the right of way by making a left turn in front of a 2008 Mototech motorcycle. Mark Becker, 63, and Nancy Becker, 66, were on the motorcycle.
November 30, 2021 – Cedar Park — One person died after a vehicle crashed into a tree near Cedar Park Tuesday night, Austin-Travis County EMS said in a tweet. The Cedar Park Police Department on Wednesday identified the driver as Toby David Garonzik, 74. He was pronounced dead at the scene. ATCEMS said it got multiple 911 calls reporting a person was pinned inside of a vehicle at the 14000 block of Anderson Mill Road, which is near FM 620.
November 15, 2021 – Travis County (25) — One person is dead after a motorcycle crash west of Austin Monday afternoon. Austin-Travis County EMS says the crash involving a motorcycle and vehicle happened around 2 p.m. at 15100 Debba Drive. That’s near FM 620.
October 29, 2021 – Travis County (24) — One person died after a crash involving a vehicle and a Leander ISD bus in west Travis County Friday morning, officials say. Multiple agencies, including STAR Flight, were responding to the crash in the 18300 block of RR 1431 road just after 7:30 a.m. Crews removed a person from a car on the scene. The person later died at a local hospital. The Texas Department of Public Safety took over the investigation and said that a red car traveling eastbound on RR 1431 for an unknown reason struck the bus that was traveling westbound. The bus was on its way to pick up Cedar Park Middle and High school students at the time of the crash.
October 23, 2021 – Kerrville — Two children are dead and a third 46-year old female has also died. The crash happened at about 3:20 p.m., Saturday, during the “Airport Race Wars 2″ drag racing event that was held at the Kerrville-Kerr County Airport. The event involved drivers speeding down a runway while they competed for cash.
October 19, 2021 – Round Rock — Round Rock Police reopened Interstate 35 in Round Rock early Wednesday morning after a deadly auto-pedestrian crash. The Round Rock Police Department says the highway was closed between Old Settlers and Palm Valley Boulevards after a crash around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday. Police say German Chavez, 55, of Maryland, was crossing the highway from east to west and was hit by a car heading north. The driver of that car stayed on scene, was released later that night and no one else was hurt.
October 17, 2021 – Travis County (23) — One person has died and another is injured after a rollover crash in northeast Travis County Sunday evening. Austin-Travis County EMS said medics are taking the injured person to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries. The crash happened just after 6 p.m. in the area of 3900 East Parmer Lane, which is near East Yager Lane and the Samsung Austin Semiconductor.
October 13, 2021 – Round Rock — Round Rock police identified the person killed in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on southbound Interstate 35. Police say Janette Gaither, 36, of Fort Worth died in the collision that happened on the highway between Hesters Crossing and State Highway 45. The Tuesday crash involved an 18-wheeler and shut down the southbound lanes of I-35 for a few hours that morning.
October 9, 2021 – San Marcos — A 62-year-old woman died in an automatic pedestrian accident in San Marcos on Saturday night. The San Marcos police station responded to a major accident near Hunter Road and Quarry Springs Road at around 9:49 pm. According to police, the driver encountered a pedestrian on the road near the convenience store Pocoloco and the Siena Point apartment. The driver tried to avoid a pedestrian (later identified as Lori McNab, 62), but a vehicle struck her, officials said.
October 8, 2021 – Comal County — Two motorcyclists traveling together on Farm-to-Market Road 306 were killed Friday evening when one cycle careened into a tree and the other was struck by an oncoming pickup truck, injuring the driver and killing a passenger of the truck, authorities said. Three person died in the crash. The two men failed to negotiate a curve, possibly due to unsafe speed, and lost control of their vehicles, police said.
October 5, 2021 – Cedar Park — A 28-year-old man who died after a crash involving a bicycle and a vehicle Monday has been identified by Cedar Park police. Police responded to the crash around 11:50 a.m. Monday at the intersection of South Bell Boulevard and East Little Elm. Corey James Been, the cyclist involved in the crash, was taken to an area hospital where he died from his injuries, police say.
September 26, 2021 – Travis County (22) — One person is dead after a crash in southeastern Travis County Sunday afternoon, according to Austin-Travis County EMS. ATCEMS says the two-vehicle crash happened on FM 812 Road around 3:28 p.m. The crash site is about a mile east of Circuit of the Americas. One vehicle caught on fire, ATCEMS says. ATCEMS says two people were taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
September 26, 2021 – Milam County — A 23-year-old Hutto man died in a Sunday night traffic crash near Thorndale in Milam County. The Department of Public Safety reports Layne Alexander Watkins died when he was ejected from his vehicle, and a 19-year-old male passenger was injured as a pickup went off the road and struck a tree.
September 12, 2021 – Travis County (21) — The Texas Department of Public Safety identified a man Monday who died in a crash just outside the Austin city limits Sept. 12. Texas DPS said Jorge Lozano, 64, of Del Valle was driving a 2016 GMC Terrain when it drifted into the wrong side of FM 812 about a half-mile southeast of Austin. The SUV continued off the road and hit a culvert, then stopped after it went through a fence. Lozano was pronounced dead at the scene, DPS said. The crash happened just after 1 p.m. between Mustang Ridge and Cedar Creek. A passenger was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center via STAR Flight with injuries.
September 11, 2021 – New Braunfels — The New Braunfels Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating a vehicle involved in a hit and run fatality traffic accident. The driver of the 18-wheeler, a 54-year old male from Dale, Texas, died in that collision. On today’s date at approximately 8:30am, officers were called to the 1000 block of I-35 North (northbound mainlanes) at Hwy 46 for a report of a pedestrian accident on the highway. That vehicle, a silver 4-door Dodge Neon, attempted to swerve away from the trailer on the shoulder and struck the driver (as well as the back of the 18-wheeler) with the back right passenger side of the sedan.
September 8, 2021 – Travis County (20) — One person is dead and two others are injured after a head-on collision on McNeil Drive near US 183 and San Felipe Boulevard in northwest Austin. Authorities say the incident happened around 9:20 p.m. on the 7400 block of McNeil at San Felipe. Preliminary investigation suggests only that a Mazda sedan and a Toyota SUV collided in the area. The SUV reportedly then continued onward a short distance before crashing into another vehicle. Later reports indicate the Mazda’s driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene while two occupants of the second car were taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No further information is currently available. The crash occurred Tuesday night around 9:30 p.m. A man driving a black sedan hit a car with four people inside, but no one was hurt. He then drove off and hit another car with two people inside.
September 8, 2021 – Williamson County — A woman killed in a Sept. 5 rollover crash on MoPac Expressway in Williamson County was identified by the Texas Department of Public Safety Monday. Texas DPS said she was Sheila Troxell, 51, of San Antonio. She was pronounced dead on scene. DPS said the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. that day. A 2003 Ford Expedition, which was reported as stolen, was going north on MoPac. For an unknown reason, Troxell, who was driving, drifted off the roadway, causing the car to roll multiple times. DPS said Troxell and the passenger, a 34-year-old man also from San Antonio, were ejected from the SUV. The passenger was taken to a local hospital for his injuries.
August 30, 2021 – Travis County (19) — The Department of Public Safety is expected to release more information Tuesday morning about a deadly crash involving a dump truck Monday afternoon in Spicewood. Austin-Travis County EMS says one person died in the crash around 5:35 p.m. on South Pace Bend Road. ATCEMS and the Pedernales Fire Department responded to the incident.
August 22, 2021 – Cedar Park — A 67-year-old man died after being hit by a car while riding his bike Sunday morning, Cedar Park police say. Police found David Lutz with critical, life-threatening injuries near Cypress Creek Road and El Salido Parkway around 7:55 a.m. Sunday after the crash. Lutz was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries, police say. CPPD says the driver stayed at the scene. A spokesperson didn’t comment on possible charges for the driver.
August 5, 2021 – Kyle — Kyle police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian that happened Aug. 5. A Hays County Sheriff’s Deputy found a man who had been hit by a vehicle around 2:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Windy Hill Road, on the east side of Interstate 35 near the frontage road. Despite life-saving efforts by Buda Fire and EMS at the scene, Jose Emilio Berberena, 22, was pronounced dead at Ascension Seton Hays hospital later that day. KPD’s crash investigation unit is on the case, and KPD says it believes the vehicle in question is a white 2010-2012 Ford F-150 pickup with a chrome bumper. The pickup potentially has damage to its grill and front end, along with a faulty passenger-side headlight.
August 5, 2021 – Mustang Ridge (18) — One person died after hitting a pole and going into cardiac arrest in Mustang Ridge Thursday. Austin-Travis County EMS said crews were called out to U.S. Highway 183 southbound and Old Lockhart Road around 12:13 p.m. after reports that a car went through a fence and hit a pole. The driver and sole occupant seemed to be unconscious and going into cardiac arrest, according to the 911 call.
July 24, 2021 – Fredericksburg — Two people killed in a Fredericksburg crash over the weekend have been identified by the Fredericksburg Police Department. Police say 27-year-old Kayla Maughan and 38-year-old David Rodrigues died after a pickup truck and a minivan crashed on State Highway 16 Saturday, July 24 around 9:12 p.m. FPD says it was a head-on crash. Rodrigues was driving the truck south. Maughan was a front seat passenger in the minivan, which was driving north near the 3000 block of SH 16, police say. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Maughan’s husband, the driver of the minivan, and their two children in the back seat were flown to San Antonio hospitals, police say. Police didn’t provide an update on their condition.
June 26, 2021 – Travis County (17) —A person has died after a crash on SH 130 in eastern Travis County late on Saturday evening. Medics responded to reports of a collision involving a single vehicle at about 11:25 p.m. on Saturday. One person was reportedly trapped inside the vehicle.
June 23, 2021 – Georgetown —A deadly crash on Interstate 35 in Georgetown closed southbound lanes Wednesday, police say. The road reopened around 1 p.m. Wednesday after being closed since around 10 a.m. Georgetown police said Thursday that Julia Inman, 62, veered off the interstate and crashed into a guardrail while driving a 2012 Nissan. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders, GPD said.
July 16, 2021 – Travis County (16) — A person died in a wreck on FM 1626 in southern Travis County, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office said Friday. TCSO tweeted about the wreck just before 10 a.m. Friday and said deputies were on scene and the road was closed, then followed it up at 10:20 a.m. to say someone died. It was at the intersection of FM 1626 and Katy Lane, near San Leanna.
June 16, 2021 – Bee Caves (15) — A 72 year old woman who was taken to the hospital Wednesday night after reports that a car rolled into a retention pond at the Hill Country Galleria has died. The crash happened in the 3900 block of Market Street, near Dick’s Sporting Goods. The call came in just before 9 p.m. Wednesday, Austin-Travis County EMS said. Bee Cave Police Department reported officers found one car on its roof in the retention pond. The pond was holding about 18 to 24 inches of water. One officer who responded saw the woman inside the car, but couldn’t open the doors because they were locked and sunk in mud.
June 13, 2021 – Round Rock, TX — June 13, 2021, James Steven Glasgow was killed. Investigators reported that the crash took place at around 1:30 a.m. along I-35 near Bratton Lane. The vehicle somehow ran off the ramp onto the grass where it then crashed into a tree. Police claim that tests showed Glasgow had a .22 BAC following the crash, and drugs may also have been a factor.
May 28, 2021 – Travis County (14) — DPS says an unidentified driver hit a pedestrian around 3:20 a.m. Friday near the 14300 block of Dessau Road. Alyssa Gonzalez, a 20-year-old from Pflugerville, was pronounced dead at the scene.Witnesses have described the suspect’s vehicle as a black or dark colored Buick passenger vehicle. The vehicle may have heavy front end damage to the grill and bumper, police say. The Texas DPS is asking for the public’s help providing information on a fatal hit and run early Friday morning in Pflugerville. The person was driving northbound in the outside lane. After the crash, the driver left the scene, failing to render aid for Gonzalez, DPS says.
May 23, 2021 – Travis County (13) — One child was killed and four others hospitalized following a multi-vehicle collision in Northeast Travis County in the early hours of Sunday morning. At 12:45a.m., EMS were responding to the scene in the 10000 block of State Highway 130 northbound, near the Parmer Lane exit by Manor. First responders at the scene reported six vehicles were involved and a total of six patients, with one victim having been ejected during the crash.
May 11, 2021 – Jarrell — One person died following a crash Tuesday involving two commercial trucks on Interstate 35 between Jarrell and Georgetown, the Texas Department of Public Safety said. Southbound lanes on I-35 are closed, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said via Twitter. The crash happened near mile marker 270 and involves at least one 18-wheeler. Traffic is being detoured at the southbound exit to Ronald Reagan Boulevard. Texas DPS said they were told about the crash around 5:40 a.m.
May 10, 2021 – Travis County (12) — A person died after being hit by a vehicle near the Travis/Caldwell county line Monday morning, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office said. The person was hit near the intersection of U.S. Highway 183 and Camino Real (State Highway 21), the sheriff’s office said. The call came in around 6 a.m. Roads were closed for more than two hours and reopened around 8:15 a.m. The approximate address given was the 10700 block of U.S. 183, which is near a gas station and truck stop.
May 6, 2021 – Travis County (11) — A 71-year-old man killed in a crash on U.S. 183 near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport late last month was identified by the Texas Department of Public Safety Thursday. DPS said he was Robert Pineda of Austin. The crash happened April 25 around 9:25 p.m., just south of Onion Creek. DPS said the 2015 Nissan Versa Pineda was driving was going northbound on 183. A 2008 Dodge Ram failed to yield while leaving a private drive. The Dodge hit the front right of the Nissan, which caused it to roll into the median. Pineda was pronounced dead at the scene, DPS said.
May 3, 2021 – Taylor — The Taylor Police Department is investigating after a man died in a motorcycle crash Monday. Police said it happened in the 5000 block of West 2nd Street. Officers got a call about the crash just before 9 p.m. They determined a motorcycle going east on West 2nd Street hit a U-Haul truck that had entered an intersection while going north on FM 3349. The motorcyclist, Jacob Shelp, 38, of Elgin, was pronounced dead on scene, according to Taylor PD. The driver of the U-Haul wasn’t hurt.
April 30, 2021 Liberty Hill — One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash at State Highway 29 and County Road 260 in Liberty Hill Friday. The Texas Department of Public Safety said it happened just after 10:30 a.m. The agency is still investigating the crash and what caused it. DPS is reminding drivers to minimize distractions, not drive while tired, avoid driving under the influence, obey traffic signals and wear a seatbelt.
April 26, 2021 New Braunfels — A 19-year-old Fort Hood man died in New Braunfels after hitting a utility pole in a single-car crash early Monday morning around 7:20 a.m. New Braunfels Police say the man was speeding on the southbound frontage road of Interstate 35 when he lost control of the car in a construction zone. The car hit the inside and outside retaining barriers before hitting the utility pole and rolling over into a field. Police don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. Police believe the crash happened during the overnight hours.
April 25, 2021 – Travis C0unty (10) — The Department of Public Safety says one person is dead after a crash Sunday night on northbound U.S. 183 near the airport. According to Austin-Travis County EMS, the crash happened around 9:50 p.m. on the highway just south of Onion Creek. Two vehicles collided and one person was pinned in their vehicle. Austin-Travis County EMS says paramedics took that person to the hospital with critical life-threatening injuries. Crews with Travis County Fire and Rescue took a second person to the hospital.
April 27, 2021 – Travis C0unty — Two Manor Independent School District students were significantly hurt in a two-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning on northbound FM 973 after their pickup truck was hit head-on by another truck. All-in-all, seven students were in the pickup that was hit — including three students who were in the bed of the pickup, police said. Two students were taken to local hospitals: one by air in a Star Flight helicopter and the other by ambulance. The driver of the second pickup was also taken to the hospital in an ambulance. All three had serious injuries, according to Austin-Travis County EMS. Hours after the crash, you can see the tire tracks going from the wrong lane of travel across the road and into the grass. The crash occurred around 2 a.m. on FM 973, just north of its intersection with U.S. Highway 290. Police also believe alcohol could have played a role in the cause of the crash. In an update Tuesday afternoon, MPD said the driver of the truck occupied by the Manor ISD students, who is also a student themselves, was arrested on a DWI charge. The other driver was also arrested on an intoxication assault charge, according to police.
April 16, 2021 – Travis C0unty (9) — The Manor Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own Saturday morning, following a deadly crash in south Austin just before midnight. MPD reports Hunter Hartman, 27, was killed in the crash that happened near the intersection of 290 and El Rey Boulevard. That’s near Ascension Seton Southwest Hospital. Hartman worked as a victim services specialist and recently graduated from Baylor University with a master’s degree in social work, MPD says.
April 15, 2021 – Austin DPS — A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper hit and ran over someone just west of the State Capitol building Thursday morning. The person, identified as Roger Fuentes, 50, was lying in the middle of the road when he was hit. Troopers tried to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene just after 4 a.m. His last known address is in Taft, Texas, according to DPS. The crash happened at the corner of West 13th and Colorado Streets around 3:45 a.m. The man was lying in the road for “unknown reasons,” and the trooper was patrolling adjacent streets when the collision occurred.
April 8, 2021 – Travis C0unty (8) — Eric Strait from San Marcos was driving a 2011 Suzuki GXS motorcycle on State Highway 130 southbound around 8:35 p.m. DPS says Strait traveled off the roadway and into the median and was ejected from the motorcycle Austin Thursday night. Austin-Travis County EMS said crews were called out to the scene at about 8:36 p.m. A 911 caller reported a “motorcycle collision” with one person being unconscious.
March 28, 2021 – Travis C0unty (7) — DPS says Israel Benitez Sosentes, 32, was driving around a curve on Sprinkle Road in eastern Travis County when he overcorrected and lost control of a 2005 Ford Expedition, causing it to move off the road. Austin-Travis County EMS says first responders were called out to the 1500 block of Cameron Road near Springdale Road just after 3 a.m. Sunday morning.
March 18, 2021 – Round Rock — A 23-year-old woman died in the crash that happened around 7 a.m. March 18 north of the Round Rock Avenue Bridge, near RM 620 and Exit 253. The woman who died in the collision was driving a Ford Edge, police said. The crash involved two vehicles, according to police.
March 18, 2021 – Round Rock — A deadly, multi-vehicle wreck on Interstate 35 in Round Rock closed the southbound lanes of the freeway the morning of March 18. Now, police are looking to speak with a driver who was pulling a dark-colored trailer in the area. The driver with the trailer would’ve been in that section of the highway at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Round Rock police say. Investigators are also looking to speak with witnesses to the crash. Police say at least one person died in the crash, which happened north of the Round Rock Avenue bridge. That person was identified as Jaton Lozano, 44, of Killeen, on March 22 by police.
March 14, 2021 – Round Rock — The Round Rock Police Department is on the lookout for the van involved in a crash that killed a pedestrian on Interstate 35 earlier this month. Police say on March 14 around 1 a.m., Angel Contreras was walking along I-35 near the La Margarita Restaurant when he was hit and killed by a van going southbound. The area is north of Sam Bass Road. Police found the vehicle that hit Contreras was a 1996-2002 white Chevy Express van. Officers say the van was loaded with boxes and luggage on top of it. It will probably have damage to its headlight on the front right and its passenger-side mirror. After hitting Contreras, the van then exited I-35 at RM 620/Round Rock Avenue, according to police.
March 10, 2021 – Travis C0unty (6) — One person died after a crash in Del Valle on Sunday night in the 10600 block of FM 812 just before 8:15 p.m. DPS identified that person as Jose Martinez-Garcia, 22. The area is west of Circuit of the Americas. Texas DPS said the 2020 Kawasaki motorcycle was going eastbound on FM 812 when it traveled off the south edge of the road as it went into a curve due to “excessive speed.” The motorcycle then hit the guard rail, which ejected Martinez-Garcia.
March 10, 2021 – Travis C0unty (5) — A person was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle crash in the 204000 block of west State Highway 71 near Lakeway on Wednesday morning — causing extended delays in the area into the afternoon. According to Austin-Travis County EMS, the victim became pinned in their vehicle after the collision between a vehicle and a semi-truck. The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Mark McElvany, of Texas City. According to DPS, the 2020 Toyota Corolla driven by McElvany drifted to the left out of his lane and struck a 2000 Peterbilt truck tractor going westbound near Haystack Cove.
March 10, 2021 – Travis C0unty (4) — Texas DPS said troopers were called out to the crash on FM 2224 near River Hills Road at about 6 a.m. DPS identified the victim as Jackson Coker, 18. Coker was driving eastbound on FM 2224 in a 2018 Jeep. EMS medics responded to the intersection at 6:12 a.m. after receiving reports about a rollover collision.. He was the only one in the car. DPS said for unknown reasons, the Jeep went off the right side of the road and hit the guardrail before rolling down the embankment. Coker was a former student and football player at Westlake High School and part of the Class of 2020.
March 1, 2021 – Travis C0unty (3) — One person was killed in a rollover crash in Southeast Austin on Monday, medics said. Austin-Travis EMS Medics responded to the crash in the 7800 block of Dee Gabriel Collins Road near McKinney Falls Parkway around 11:20 a.m. Medics said the driver, who has not been identified, may have been ejected from the vehicle. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
February 27, 2021 – Travis C0unty (2) — One person died and another was critically injured following a two-vehicle crash in southeast Austin the intersection of Dee Gabriel Collins Road and Creedmoor Road at around 2:31 a.m. Saturday. Texas DPS says Yefrin Rivera, 23, drove a 2015 Toyota Tundra into oncoming traffic on FM 812 when he hit a 2013 GMC Sierra head on in the early morning hours of Feb. 27.
February 27, 2021 – Westlake Hills (1) – The person hit by a car at the intersection of Bee Caves Road and Walsh Tarlton Lane Friday morning died. The crash happened just after 5 a.m. and shut down the eastbound lanes of Bee Caves Road. Austin-Travis County EMS said they performed CPR on the pedestrian.
February 7, 2021 – San Marcos — Two people died after their Jeep crashed into a semi-trailer and caught on fire Sunday night on Interstate 35 near San Marcos. The City of San Marcos reported the wreck happened at about 10:24 p.m. near mile marker 208. The city stated the driver of a 2014 Jeep hit the back of a trailer pulled by an 18-wheeler, which was parked off the main lanes near a DPS weigh station. The Jeep caught on fire and both people inside the Jeep died. Officials identified the Jeep’s driver as Andrew Martindale, 20, of Texarkana and the passenger as Stephanie Salas, 20, of Del Rio. Investigators determined the Jeep was going more than 100 miles per hour when it lost control and hit the semi-truck. Social media posts found by police show Martindale and Salas drinking alcohol before the crash at a Super Bowl party and one Austin bar. Investigators are working with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to identify the bars or establishments involved.
February 5, 2021 – Cedar Park — A driver died after his truck struck a concrete pillar on the U.S. Highway 183A toll road in Cedar Park. Police said the single-vehicle wreck happened Feb. 5 at about 7:30 a.m. near the 6200 block of the highway. Police said John Alphones Brommel, 59, died after being taken to the hospital. Officers reported his Chevy Silverado truck left the road and crashed.
January 26, 2021 – Williamson County — A person is dead after a motorcycle crash in Northwest Austin on Tuesday evening, Austin-Travis County EMS officials said. Medics responded around 6:37 p.m. to a report of a motorcycle crash at the 9800 block of North Lake Creek Parkway. Medics performed CPR on the victim, but the victim was pronounced dead shortly after at the scene, EMS said.
January 7, 2021 – Leander — One person died in a motorcycle crash Thursday morning in northwestern Travis County near Leander, Austin-Travis County EMS said. ATCEMS responded to the 12100 block of Lime Creek Road, just west of Anderson Mill Road, at 1:38 a.m. for a motorcycle that collided with a tree. A Travis County Sheriff’s Office deputy also responded to the scene and did CPR, but the motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after EMS arrived.
